    strange behavior .....

    good morning

I spent the weekend upgrading my PC's from win 7 to win 10. the 1st one had some issues after the upgrade, but most have been solved. 2 of the other 3 went fine and all seem to be working as expected.

the last one, and the most important one, has lots of issues

only one user account made it through the upgrade, the rest are still on disk but not in the users group

the network did not work, and any settings changes made would not stick until about 4 or 5 reboots

the upgrade did not find my 2nd raid as it did not have drivers for it, once I installed the drivers I have its drives in 2 places in explorer, This PC, and Desktop.

Quicken Home and Business 2011 gives and administrator account error on start, it works only partially, very slowly and without the mouse. this works fine on the laptop with Quicken and Windows 10.

    strange behavior .....-w10-3.jpg

I have 2 scenarios I can think of,
    1. keep fighting these and other less critical problem until Windows 10 works correctly
    2. restore the PC from an Acronis backup I did before the upgrade and start again.

if I restore this PC back to Windows 7 from a backup, will Microsoft have any issues with doing the upgrade again? It would be a lot easier than a rollback inside WIndows 10.

many people are having issues with Quicken and Windows 10, and so far I have not found a solution. the account that did make it through the upgrade is my main account, and it has administrator privileges so "run as administrator" is not needed. I took ownership of all the directories with no change, and went though all the compatibility scenarios. I also did an uninstall / reinstall with no luck.

which would be the best and safest option? I would hate to open another can of worms with MS over licensing.
    thanks in advance

I solved the explorer issue, in the options > view > navigation pane settings turn off "show all folders"

the Quicken issue and the user accounts issue still eludes me.
    thanks

I'm on Quicken 2014. I previously had a much older version and had to do several manual updates because the old data files were not transferable to the newer editions. All has been working fine since Windows 10 upgrade. You should be on Release R8 20.1.8.6 and may need the Mondo patch. Beyond that, you may need to upgrade to a newer version. Here's a link to an archive of Quicken updates -

Once a machine or device has been upgraded to Windows 10 from a valid activated qualifying Windows version such as 7, it will always have a digital entitlement which will be recognised and applied when Windows 10 is next installed on that device. It does not say in post #1, but was the installation activated post-installation?

If so, Microsoft will have no issues with you reinstalling Windows 10 home on that PC, as long as the machine still has life in it.

You may need support from Intuit or such a TF member as MrGeek above, regarding Quicken migration from old to new.

I'm using Home and Business 2011. I have no problems with the data files. it worked correct under win7, but since the upgrade to win10 on this machine it has problems. strangely there are no problems on my laptop which I upgraded first.

    I tried the link, page 404 ........

    thanks

Easy, see screen. Control Panel / System. Product ID is install build. Activation is indicated if valid, above product id -

Sorry about the link, I didn't look at it to delete what else I was writing. Here is correct one - Quicken Patches - QuicknPerlWiz
If you get a 404, hit redirect to home page, hit QuickenPatches tab. Site manager has all patch releases on his Dropbox acct so you don't have to jump thru hoops on the Intuit site.

"these patches look to be a fix for data corruption, or do they fix more ............"
If you have 2011, the last patch was release 8. You can find out what version you're on in drop down menu under Help, click About will tell you what release version you have. The Mondo is the major update rolled into an install file which you may not need if you have version 7 already installed. Even if you have 8, the patch may reinstall missing files.
PS; did you try running Quicken in Compatibility Mode ? R-click Quicken install exe/click Troubleshoot compatibility before installing. Mine is set to XP SP3 compatible so your older edition can't be any more suited to 8 or 10.

"yes my windows 10 is activated .......... so can I use my win7 backup instead of a rollback and start the upgrade over?"

I would not bother to roll back or remount Acronis image just to upgrade again. I would simply Reset from the Recovery menu in Action Center, choosing to keep files. Or, you can download the ISO using Media Creation Tool, burn to DVD and clean install or repair from that. The DVDcan be used in the future for repair too, so handy to have anyways -
