Audio CD won't play? "Windows cannot access the specified device..."

If I click Play on an Audio CD I get: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I can play it with VLC, but I want to rip it.

Go to AutoPlay and check the settings :

Right click at Start > top right, click View by : > click either large or small > click AutoPlay > check the box " Choose what to do with each type of media " ................
Make sure Music and Audio CD are set to Play (Windows media player) > click Save when done.

It's not that it won't AutoPlay, when it runs it gives the error.

Did it work previously? You could try system restore point to a previous time if that's the case. I don't know how to fix your error but you haven't installed real player by any chance -I heard that can mess with auto play settings

I haven't tried to play a CD for well over a year, so a restore is not viable.

    Try this
    Start
    Settings
    System
    Default Apps
    Music Player
    Click that
    Up will come a menu
    Select
    Windows Media Player
Then you should be able to rip your music
As that is what I used

Is the Audio CD copy protected?
