trying to open a JPEG. Get "Class not registered" How do I fix this

    Hello.

I have all updates applied to the Windows 10 Professional x64 bit machine. Started Windows 10 this morning and tried to open a JPEG file, i.e., double click any.jpg. Windows 10 comes back with, "Class not registered".

Cleaned all the files, registry and nothing changes this. Restarted and checked all in safe mode as well. Went to assign defaults to Windows Photo Viewer and found that it had 2 of its defaults. Clicked make this default. Nothing. Assigned all defaults to the Windows Photo Viewer, hit save. NOTHING SAVED!

This has nothing to do with Edge or Internet Explorer.

    Any thoughts or suggestions please!

Hi, you could try the ideas here - not the command line to reregister dlls.

    Sledgehammer approach:
an in-place upgrade repair install (instructions in Tutorial section).
Keeps all, may find the odd association reset to MS default, need to reenter Wifi key, system restore points lost and s. restore turned off.

    Very useful repair technique.

Needs boot medium of the same major build as your Win 10.
