I think your start menu grey out issue is the colors, options for background you have set. I have mine set to (transparent) to show my desktop wallpaper as the background. I see a color shift but my text is easily readable.

Not to be rude but do you honestly think I haven't tried setting it to transparent? I've tried every single option on the personalization tab. I've set the default theme, installed custom themes, even set high contrast themes. Nothing works!!

I'm just going by your original screen shot, no disrespect intended. In the screen shot all I see is dark colors. It's impossible to tell if it was set that way or not. are you using any third party theme utilities or a utility to customize the start menu?

Sorry for my little rant there. I know you're just trying to help. I'm not using any third party applications to customize anything. Everything is default. The start menu being dark is the problem I'm having BTW. Once my cursor goes into the start menu, Everything goes dark and I will be unable to get it back to normal.

I just got this awesome new Acer laptop with Windows 10 Pre-Installed on it. Everything is fine except for my start menu and some legacy Windows 10 apps. .......
It's new? Take it back to the store, and get a replacement.

That's kind of a problem. My dad bought it for me as a gift and he lives in the U.K. He sent it via courier to me in Nigeria. Sending it back would be a lot of hassle for both of us.

Does it do it right from the get go, before you install any of your own programs? Are you logged in with a local account or Microsoft account? I'm not sure it matters, but I'm running out of ideas. Some Apps etc will not run if you log in with a local account. Does it show as activated on the system screen? I'm pulling at straws now, what can I say.

You should give Classic Shell a try...

Pulling at straws like alphanumeric. Have you checked if there is a updated driver for your video card?
