Hello DayWalker Welcome to the Ten Forums!

What was more likely for XP, Vista, 7 seems to have shrunk down a bit for 8, 8.1, and now 10 as far as what can see wav files assigned for playback! In 7 the Log on and Log off options were there in the Sounds part of the sound options and Personalization. With 10 the check box for the MS default wav file is what you get!

As for connecting a flash drive, printer, external hard drive enclosure... you hear a car horn sound off if not a buzzer depending on which side of the 10/7 dual boot is running. What you find in the Control Panel>Sound>Sounds tab is what you get for this type of option regardless of which version you are running. Assigning a custom playback might be achieved by seeing a new registry value that points to a particular wav file for that type of function however.

Running transfers and backing files up to external drives, flash drives. VMs even seeing files and folders copied over as well as remote transfers of files and folders between two separate machines would be nice to have a wav file sound off but isn't happening with the sound options found in Windows! Having a custom entry created seems like the only solution when Windows lacks something.

Yes I know which sucks. If only I was smart enough to figure out how to do a custom sound/reg edit to achieve this.

    Have you tried
    Start
    Right Click
    Control Panel
    Personalisation
    Then click
    Sounds
Once opened you can scroll down and tick any sounds you want
    It show up Windows Modified
    Once done
    Click Apply
Then the sound you want to hear will be there
I have one set that when my printer finishes printing a chime sounds

That's not what he is asking, he'd like to set a sound to a particular event (copying and pasting a file), alas no event exists in 10 for file explorer (where i would expect it to be)

Night Hawk, if it was available in 7 and prior, might it be possible to add a registry entry similar to bring back that particular event into the listing, so a sound could be associated with it?

Edit: NM, I see you mentioned that in your post as well ...

There is no options available to play sounds for file transfers or download complete. I have already looked where you have stated in control panel. So a regedit or similar is the only way I think this could happen. I would like to have a sound play once a file transfer is done or a download completed. Instead of the window just closing out by itself with no other way to know if it is done.

I have searched ad searched and can't find anything. So unless on of the "Windows Wizards" here in our forums can help I don't think this is possible.
What a great notification to have though.

No this would need to be a highly "Specialized" project with someone well advanced as far as writing new things in the registry itself to point to a variable exactly where you could then modify which wav file would be used at a particular time for a particular function such as the initiation of the copy and paste and conclusion for which you are looking for an answer on.

One tweak mentioned earlier I wouldn't mind seeing was the log on option returned not being stuck with the default Windows startup sound when that box is checked off. Even tried substituting the default wav used with one renamed the same and a no go! The part about bringing back some of 7 items isn't that bad an idea there for sure!
