Have a look at this SevenForums thread:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-u...ows-7-8-a.html

There may be a similar thread on EightForums.

You may want to start at the last page and work backwards until you come across a recent "complete list.
Every month you have to check if MS has tried to slip the W10 update into your list of updates, before you update your machine.

    Can you reinstall W8?
Can you use a backup image to restore your system?

If yes, perform the reinstall/re-image and then make sure to skip the updates mentioned in the thread (above).

Are your using IE at all? MS added a little something to the latest updates for IE that bring up 10 spots! Windows patch KB 3139929: When a security update is not a security update | InfoWorld

Microsoft buried a Get Windows 10 ad generator inside this month's Internet Explorer security patch for Windows 7 and 8.1
Nice little trick by MS in going to further promote 10 knowing people will be wanting to get rid of the 10 app now seen in it's second generation. Get Windows 10 Icon - Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

You can go even further by the Group Policy Editor as far as disabling the "Upgrade to the latest version" feature as well as a reg mod available for download in the guide found here at 10F. Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

On two separate machines both seeing 10/7 dual boots the 10 App second generation slipped right past one day after having hidden the "KB3035583" update! That's the number of the update for just the 10 app itself. I had a few suspicions about another that didn't pan out however when the upgrade by update didn't go through! With a new 7 VM I have to put the same things into effect as well.
