Hi everyone, i just moved my computer up to my room so could use it before bed, but it was to bright so i wanted to lower the brightness. When i went into display settings there was no slider or option to change the brightness setting. all my gpu drivers are up to date, i repeat all my gpu drivers are up to date. Everywhere on the internet where it says the slider should be it is simply not there. I really need help thanks

Yes, there is. However, one member says the setting does not stick. Meaning you need to set it again next time after restart.

Settings > System > Display > right side, under Orientation, change it to Portrait > the Apply and Cancel buttons are now active > change Orientation back to Landscape > move the slider to the left to reduce brightness > click Apply when done.

Are you using a laptop ?
If yes, do you have 2 keys in your keyboard from which you can adjust Brightness ?
Mine has. What I do is press the FN key and HOLD > then press one of the brightness keys to adjust.

Hello coolguy16, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

In addition, you might see if you may be able adjust your screen brightness using one of the options in the tutorial below.

About Fn keys I wanted to report that current Windows 10 10586.164 has some problems with some laptops...
To be exact the Fn keys for brightness may not work (on screen slider moves but without visible effects).
I've reproduced this issue on my laptops MSI GX660 (AMD GPU + drivers) and Samsung Ativ Book 2 NP270E5V-K05IT (Intel IGP + drivers).

To fix this problem you have to:
    1. open Regedit and go to key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000"
    2. change "ApplyNativeMode" to 1 (from 0) on Samsung + Intel drivers; on MSI + AMD Crimson drivers look for "KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2" and set its value to 0
    Log-out and re-login or reboot.
