    icon display all messed up

hi... i have like ten thousand icons in folders i have saved

all of a sudden when i open a folder the icon sizes are all different...
large is medium and medium is medium and small
and the sizes and the spacing are all mixed together
and every time i scroll the screen it changes...
and when i change the view it changes
even when i go back to the one it was before...

this seems to only affect the 32x32 icons
which used to display at 48x48 which was better
    but now display as either...

this doesn't seem to affect all folders...
also they have white squares around all of them...

does anyone know what causes this?

    hi... thanks shawn for answering...

it only seems to affect folders i've already looked at
...but not all of them... before two days went by...

when i went back to them they looked like this...

    icon display all messed up-clipboard03.jpg

    and this...

    icon display all messed up-clipboard04.jpg

the only thing i could have done is install icofx
which took over my icon associations...

    any ideas?

these icons are all the same size... 32x32

You might see if changing to medium icons view may help.

If not, then see if rebuilding the icon cache may.

thanks... the first one was medium view...
it doesn't seem to matter what view it is
they're mixed in every view except for small
    while some folders are fine...

    it's different every folder...
you should see some of them as they scroll...

i just now deleted the icon cache and rebooted
    but it's still the same...

strange it only seems to happen to folders
i've been copying and pasting into...

As a test, see if moving an item to another location and back will have it show properly again.

If so, then you might see if resetting all folder views to default may help.

i tried moving a few folders to a new one
and it seemed to work fine for the first few...
i tried playing around with the views and scrolling back and forth
and it seemed to fix some of them that way...

resetting the folder view settings didn't help at all
but it was worth a try...

out of a thousand subfolders under icons
this only affects about a dozen
only the ones i'd been copying and pasting into...

it seems to be the icons themselves
but if i overwrite them with the same icon
from the folder they came from they display just fine...

looks like it's time to start over
    thanks for your help...

    recopying or do something else...
