    Yes, Jim, you're right, but over the years, it's been shortened to "could". Although I've questioned that through the years, we're not going to change it now. Both "I couldn't care less" and "I could care less" have come to mean the same thing; "I just don't care one way or the other."

    Ain't the English language the greatest? :)
    @Wynona. . .very will put. . .:)

    I think it's just the Americans who use 'could care less' - never heard it used here in England. Neither do we use the awful
    'off of' What's that all about ? :)

    Not everyone uses proper English, Ken. And, in case you weren't aware, some things completely correct in England English, are completely wrong in USA English. And, vice versa!

    "bloody hell" What's that all about?

    There is improper use of the English language, whether you're from England or the USA. And by the way, I didn't say "could care less" is proper . . . I just said it's been shortened.

    Perfectly aware, Wynona....and by the way, I didn't say that you said the use of 'could care less' was 'proper' I just said that it's mainly Americans that use it.

    You guys are confusing a poor foreigner that scrambles with English in the first place. The grammar is easy but the spelling and pronunciation are not always obvious. LOL
