Explorer.exe not starting at boot after recent installation

I recently got my first SSD (woo!) so I had to unfortunately go through the Windows reinstallation process. All was good, SSD gave me awesome boot times as well, until a few restarts later. Now whenever I start my PC the boot takes a bit more time at the login process, and then once logged in the screen is black with only the cursor and I have to run explorer.exe manually...

I checked the "userinit" registry key (don't remember the exact path, posting on mobile) and it contained only "explorer.exe" as it should. I've tried SFC /scannow and dism /restorehealth but the problem persists..

Hello, there are many threads on black screens on this forum, some with some solutions. There is no one single solution, so you'd be best to read these, search for and read more using the search box above, then post back.
Note that some threads refer to black screens at different stages you yours.

The solution posted below is not applicable now as the Powershell command breaks apps (since build 10586).

You should have those 3 for a proper boot, you can run CMD as admin and copy/paste it, just to be sure:

    reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "Shell" /t REG_SZ /d "explorer.exe" /f
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "Userinit" /t REG_SZ /d "C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe," /f
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v "Shell" /t REG_SZ /d "explorer.exe" /f
