Windows 10 Black Screen.
Hello all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3147 that came stock with Windows 8.1. A few months back I decided to give Windows 10 a try so I upgraded. Everything went smoothly and I had zero problems for quite some time. About a month ago I went to turn it on and it booted fine, however when it got to the login screen the screen was just black, no cursor or anything. I couldn't get any keyboard commands to work so I tried restarting it. After several restarts to the same problem the repair computer screen displayed after boot. I went through each of the options hoping to preserve all my installed apps. No luck with any of that so I finally just reset it while preserving all of my personal files. Everything ran smoothly for a few days and then I encountered the same issue. I figured it might be something to do with one of the apps I had installed so I reset it once again and left it completely stock. Again it ran fine for a few days but then I encountered the same exact problem. At this point I figured it might be something driver related, after some searching I found that the black screen is often associated with the graphics driver. With that I started troubleshooting the graphics driver. I was successfully able to start the laptop in safe mode where I messed around with rolling the drivers back, installing the latest driver from Dell, uninstalling the driver entirely, etc. Nothing worked. I reset the pc once again and hoped that maybe I would get lucky this time. This time it ran fine for about a week before giving me the black screen. I wonder if the issue is related to a new update that is being installed soon after I reset the laptop. I'm not sure how to figure out which update might be the culprit and how to prevent said update from being installed. Any help is appreciated!
