Windows 10 Search feature back to basics?

I would like to remove all internet aspects of the search icon in the taskbar. I would like to remove all news and things that can be posted there, and I don't wish for the search ever to query the internet. I want it to be just a search for my computer. Is there a way I can accomplish this on windows 10?

Hi, have you tried searching the huge searchable Tutorials section?
If you've never looked at that- please do.

    I found this for you:
Turn On or Off Search online and include web results in Windows 10

I use the commands from bellow to have my PC search only local files:
Using cmd as admin and then reboot:

    reg add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search /f /v BingSearchEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0
    reg add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search /f /v AllowSearchToUseLocation /t REG_DWORD /d 0
    reg add HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search /f /v CortanaConsent /t REG_DWORD /d 0

And the "Weather / News and Interest" icon on the task bar can be disabled with the task bar options.

    Hope this helps.

The search on the taskbar isn't like explorer search. Explorer search searches the whole computer for filenames and foldernames. It isn't as fast or efficient for certain things, like "add remove programs" The search thing does the PC search the way I'd like it to, it just also has all of this extra crap I don't want nor care about. Like the news crap, and bing searches, and bing AI ads, and crap like that.

Thanks! I ran into a snag though, which is that I don't have this location in my registry "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer" the "explorer" folder doesn't exist. This makes me quite worried. I'm not a very big fan of editing registry due to risk of messing things up. So, the fact this folder isn't there worries me, and I'm not very comfortable with downloading programs designed to edit my registry like that.

Thanks, I'll checkout those registry changes. But I think some of those can be changed without manual registry edit. It's not the "weather/News and interest" thing I'd like to get rid of, I did that a long time ago lol. It's inside the search pane, There is half of the pan where it shows search results, and the other half of the pane, which is like calendar or random crap from the internet. It's microsofts way of trying to push bing AI into my life.

Don't worry about that Registry folder; this is mine:

Those are customizations that I've done using 3rd party apps or something.

    .

    The tutorial clearly says
    Here's How:

The downloadable .reg files below will add and modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

    I.e. it will be ADDED.
Just use the reg file- then you don't even have to use the registry editor or look at the registry.

Too technical for you? Don't want to touch reg files?

Do it with 1 click using this excellent free searchable tweaker with full explanations that implements many things found in tenforums tutorials:
