    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-csrss_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.

I currently have two instances of csrss.exe running on my system.

I've been told one is a valid if in the system 32 directory.
I have another under the C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-csrss_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.10586.0_none_e5697c308e6ce17d.

Does anyone know if this is a good file? I appreciate any/all you can provide... thank you in advance & Best.

I'm pretty sure you don't. Go to elevated command prompt and check with the command

    fsutil hardlink list c:\windows\system32\csrss.exe

    You'll see this (hopefully)

    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-csrss_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.-capture.png

So in actual fact (assuming you see that and if you don't you've got a problem) the two paths are in fact just two different ways of referencing the same object. It is pretty meaningless to say the program is in System32 or is in WinSxS. Both are just ways to access the same filesystem object in the same way as My Documents\xxx.docx is the same thing as C:\Users\<whatever>\Documents\xxx.docx

You can read about hardlinks here

You're welcome. If you see the same then there is certainly nothing to worry about.

hth is short for "hope this helps" btw ("by the way"). Sorry for the acronyms..

all the best, hali (my name, not yet another one :) )
