Anyone can chime in on that part. And I programed for a living so my big use of any computer is programming. When I worked I coded in COBOL mainly and on a IBM mainframe. Now I code in Python on my PC. I really love Python and I wish it were around when I was working. It would have come in handy many a time.
I do like COBOL - it is funny.

Occasionally I have to look at it as I write software and do performance analysis for banks (much less COBOL these days unfortunately) it is like someone has written a story - so longwinded.

Once upon a time I had a variable, let me tell you about it in huge detail, I'll take this variable and discuss it a bit more...

I don't know Python (mostly I still write RPG which is another legacy language or IBM API's which are even worse) but perhaps I'll look it up.

Actually I found COBOL to be fun to code with. I never used RPG but I used other languages that our company supported.

As for Python.. check it out.. it's amazing!! SO easy to learn and you can do just about anything with it. GUI support and it's a perfect general purpose programming language. The syntax is so clean and it's really fun to use.

    Welcome to Python.org

RPG is a dog. It is not really a language in the true sense. I like Cobol. I once wrote a compiler for it. But the IBM API is the best. There you can do anything.

I'm not trying to defend RPG as a language (it is only what I do with my PC as it pays my rent).

COBOL I always though was funny as rather than saying "a+b=c" you would come up with some story.

    a - I'm a guy who who likes integers. I'm 17 or something.
b - I'm another guy (maybe or maybe not who is 12.1234567890).
c - well if you like a and b why didn't you tell me about it? You don't like c? Who is that? Me? You want to think about it? Perhaps it is all too complicated and I'll pass it back. Those compiler guys are smart, they'll figure it out... Perhaps I can convert a to text (never mind about CCSID) add it to be and ...
    .
    .
z - we give up and use SQL instead.

And so on. Until you get paid.
