    Hi and welcome to TenForums,
Yep you'd have to remove the drive that 10 exists on then use this process,
Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times - Windows 7 Help Forums
After testing it you would format and re-install with the great advice already given :)
    Cheers.
The disk is marked as active, and I can not use the install disk to correct the start up files because it says it is the incorrect disk. I think Im going to have to save everything and start from scratch.

Kevin. If you are having trouble starting up win 7 and you can open win10. a work around is to go to settings/update recovery/recovery and then click the restart. Takes you to any other os on your system.

Thank you everyone for your time and suggestions! I solved the problem. Typed MSCONFIG in start menu and deleted windows 10 from the boot file. Now it boots directly to win 7.

Good deal. Does it give you a boot screen to select windows ten also?

    Hi,
You'll probably have to that every time 10 updates and needs to boot
10 will switch the default os again.... that's why you should install 10 as a dual boot even when a different hdd or ssd is being used
    Cheers.

Windows is a constant learning experience, even for those of us that "think" we know what we're doing.
    I hear ya!!! :)
I have a strange problem. I have windows 8.1 on my computer and have windows 10 build 9926 on a separate hard drive on the same computer. I keep getting - on my Windows 8.1 drive, a message from my updater to download the newest version of windows 10. Is there some way to stop the attempted download of windows 10 on my Windows 8.1 partition? I love windows 10, but don't want to install it over my 8.1 partition since that is my main computer with lots of programs and information on it.
    Thanks.

You have to hide the update to check if your pc will run 10, you probably ran it without even realizing it.

Always set your updates to " Let windows check for updates but to let you decide whether to download and install them"

I`m not sure what the update number is, I hid it a long time ago, there are threads on it and maybe another member will post it.
