My main argument against Metro apps isn't against the actual apps themselves but the fact that on a desktop - especially with several LARGE Monitors I don't want to be restricted to working always in Full screen mode (if at all).
Uhh... have you actually used windows 10? Metro apps run in windows and are resizable... I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Modern apps are the new API for Windows, and eventually... maybe not this release, or the next, but eventually there won't be any standard desktop functionality left. Yes, there will still be standard Win32 apps for a decade or more to come, but these will run in a virtualized mode most likely.

Stop pretending that the Modern apps are a Fad and will go away. They aren't. They Won't. They will just get more prevalent. This is the future, and the future is sort of-kind-of here now.
Of course all of this will only happen if M$ can get a user base.
I imagine that part of the reason for making Windows 10 free for a year is to build a user base and also to encourage developers to write Modern apps.

I can see myself much more likely to use a Modern app with the 'windowing' within Windows 10 than in 8/8.1.

MS is making it Windows 10 free to encourage users to upgrade to it. It will cut support and development costs. I will upgrade every PC I have to Windows 10 as soon as it's available. I work in IT and I've been testing Beta's since Windows 98 and upgrading the first day the new OS was released.

I think the modern apps have a purpose and are great for specific tasks. Example as a Directv NFL Sunday ticket subscriber I love the Metro NFL Sunday ticket app as I bring it up and select the game and it pops up and I just have to click to make it full screen. Now using a web browser i have to go to the DTV site then find NFL Sunday ticket. The future of modern apps are a client server type software environment with the modern apps as the clients and desktop windows or web apps as the server. This will especially be great in the business world but will filter into the home. I use clouds storage with things like phone lists from work available of multiple devices. I don't want all my co-workers in my contact list or even my boss. The number one reason I will upgrade is because its free and if I don't like it I will always have my Windows 7 install disks and can allways go back if I need to. Right now my main computer is back for repair and my second pc I took my Windows 7 SSD boot drive out and replaced it with an older SSD and installed Build 9926. I'm starting to use the settings instead of the control panel just because it seems more natural to me.

Settings tip of sorts for finding things faster ,while in settings ,just start typing something into the search field ,and a alphabetical list of options will appear

    1. It's free (unless you take more than a year to get around to clicking "upgrade")
    2. Microsoft will drop support for Windows 7 sooner
    3. They're still working on it, and you may find a feature that is a deal-maker.

Not correct on number two at least for the U.S. they have to do extended support through 2020.

And so Windows 10 will have extended support until 2024 or something. Doesn't mean that it will still get all of the latest apps and new features.

With the upgrade you will get all of the updates for Win10 for the life of the device for free.

Windows 10 upgrade will be free for devices running activated versions of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 with Update, (Enterprise versions excluded), for a period of 365 days.
What happens after the 365 day period has not been decided and/or confirmed as of yet.

This debate about price and support is a side show. The important question is whether the new OS provides something that I want and like. I started this thread trying to find out what you guys consider enough meat on the bone to make it worthy to switch. Because if there were nothing that I wanted or needed, why switch. Being the latest OS does not necessarily mean that it is the best OS for me or for you.

Remember - I am undecided up to now and keep my options open. I am not against W10, but I am still wondering why I would want it. But if I hear why you would want it, that may give me some clues.
