Why would I change from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Microsoft creates new operating systems for a reason..
One would be to sell them. Older operating system stopped making them money.
They need something new to sell.

me thinks there more to it than that ,if we go back to the earlier OS ,the biggest reason I think would be hardware advances ,the software had to keep up with the changes

System image restores if properly done take less than 5 minutes. Are you that much I a hurry? A clone takes an extra drive. You can store scores of images on the same drive.

yeah even a network image only takes five minutes or so if the infrastructure isn't bottlenecked.

Well, I think 5 minute images of a full OS partition are rare. I have made images in that timeframe, but those were systems with appr. 25GBs of data and from SSD to internal disk. But as soon as you go to an external disk (unless it is eSata), you have to allow more time.

It takes me 4.5 minutes to backup a 60+ GB partition SSD to 2 disk RAID 0 array It takes me a little over 5 minutes to an external USB 3.0 disk (WDC black) for the same. This is with Macrium.

It takes about 5 minutes to restore, and I have done many of these, it is not a big deal. It is much more convenient than a clone. I used to do clones. With a clone you have one image to do which makes one reluctant to do it often. With images I am more likely to make a backup because I can have many and it doesn't take long.

If you compress the image it takes at little longer. It also depends what your saving the image on.

Here are my measurements for HDD, SSHD andd SSD on eSata and USB3. I wrote an image of a C partition on a SSD with 35GB of data using Macrium.

@whs What is your point? A fairly simple setup will give you about 200 MB/s backup to external disk with Macrium.

System: 2 Samsung 128 GB SSD RAID 0
Internal backup: 2 WDC Blue drives, RAID 0
External backup: WDC 2TB Black, USB 3.0
