One of the reason I want to keep 7 is so that I can continue to use my old programs with no issues whatsoever.

Ah, but would Win 10 also have an XP compatibility mode? Some of the programs I use in Win 7 run better in XP compatibility mode (which is not a VM, btw).

LF, I think you asking for too much. XP is from the dawn of time. For how long do you want MS to support that environment.

a lot of people still use xp ,and I will assume they would like for them to support it for ever ,for years[like about 12] now I have been selling used computer as a sideline ,and a lot of the people I have sold to keep me are there go to guy for repairs ,and a good number of those people are still using XP, or just in the past year or so are getting a newer computer with win7 some win8.

The dawn of time? This coming from another senior citizen? LOL!

All seriousness aside, Win 7 has compatibility support all the way back to Windows 95. Asking for Win 10 to support only XP and Win 7 compatibility really isn't unreasonable. However, I can (and probably will) stay with Win 7 until sometime in 2019 (no point in waiting to the last minute) and, by then, I will have probably replaced those older programs.

No I think I would prefer a "skin" or whatever you call it so Windows 10 looked exactly like Windows 7 HP and above with full aero and all the other stuff. If you are on 7 Pro and Ultimate what would be the point of upgrading to 10 as it is now? Work in Progress and I wonder if they M$ and the developers know what they are doing. Seems to be a lot of crap little girls and boys toys that we must have but I think most will disable. Voice control and the PC reading to us is nothing new. Windows 98 did it, XP did it 7 does it. No one used it then, what makes them think we'll use it now? I am spilt on upgrading. My Windows 8 Pro will go but not sure about the retail Ultimate since I have at least 5 years on them, they work and I don't have to pay for Media Center. That is right, they are going to give us a bunch of crap I don't want or need and make us pay for the ability to run Media Center.
    EDIT
I have seen one instance of voice control on a Vietnam Vets set up in the Veterans Home in West Lafayette. He spoke commands and the computer carried them out, switching on his TV and setting it to whatever channel volume he wanted. turned lights on and off and answered the phone for him. He is a paraplegic and is bedridden. I know it works in these cases very well but I am talking about regular users.
