Sounds like you need a new "computer guy". Any techie worth their salt would work on fixing the issue.
As for you computer, since you did the upgrade, you are able to do a clean install now. I'd download your drivers, put them on a flash drive and clean install 10.
I would change that "computer guy" immediately, go to carpenter or somebody like that. Millions of non "computer guys" can do it. Almost none of us here are "computer guys" but have been running W10 for months now with good success. Some have almost none computer experience and managed to install/upgrade and run W10.

Thanks for your advice Deacon. I'll mention it to him but he has told me he's had lots of other problems one of which is no sound on You Tube. He is quite good though since he and his partner brother have some rather large clients in my area who are all satisfied.
I guess I'll have to show him what Deacon and Mike are saying.
Two laptops, two desktops and one Lumia 640 W10 phone do everything they are supposed to do and that's just at my place. Couple of dozen other computers that I set up also running with almost no problems. It's not age thing or experience either, I'm 68 and youngest I set computer for is 6 !!!
I suggest tact in quoting some of the remarks.
You haven't told us what the laptop is. If its maker supports the Win 10 upgrade, which mainly means that it offers Win 10 drivers, the process ought to be smooth. If you have to hunt up drivers yourself, it may be more painful. Some makers customize things like device IDs, so the upgrade process might require a little hacking.
I recommend most people running 7 to stay with it, though. I recommend upgrading from Windows 8.1, though, because I dislike the lack of integration between the desktop and the interface formerly known as Metro. (Also, machines that run 8.1 are almost certainly able to run 10.)
Upgrading from fully updated 8.1 to 10 should be easier and smoother than from W7 Sp1. Kernel and drivers are much closer to W10.
My system right now is: W7 upgraded to W8 (took advantage of cheap first month upgrade) > 8.1 (free) > W10 (first insider version than full and insider right now). There were no clean installs except for W7 at the beginning. Except for few hiccups with changes everything works just fine.
Worst problems were going from 8 to 8.1 (AMD legacy GPU drivers were 2 weeks late so black screen with cursor).
On W10 only problems while switching from and to insider versions and changing MBs at same time. Sfc /scannow dropped me from insiders.
I appreciate everyone's help. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron #5720 if that makes any difference.
Dell supports that laptop for Windows 10.
