Well not on the list, so wonder how it opens it. If right click the .dds file and select properties by clicking the change button will tell you it is associated with it, but here can only change it to another program. Default Programs area in your last 2 pics is only place i know unless find it in the registry and edit it or uninstall the game and reinstall. For one Windows Photo Viewer is really no longer used in Windows 10, Photos is new one, either you restored it or came over from the existing operating system.

Sorry this is all i know. Did i have the reasons correct on why you have to open a .dds file to begin with or is it opening and you do not want it to, not much else is explained here.

You want to get rid of old Windows Photo Viewer, try the last step here https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...dows-10-a.html
Can always restore it again in same tutorial, maybe it will help this issue.

I think this will work. Would be a good idea to make a backup of your registry first though.

Open a Elevated Command Prompt and enter the following:
    assoc .dds

    Response should be

    .dds=ddsfile
    Next enter
    ftype ddsfile

    Response should be:
    ftype ddsfile
File type 'ddsfile' not found or no open command associated with it.

If instead it shows an associated actionthen you enter
    ftype ddsfile=

and that should reset it to Unknown.

    .

well i did as you said, and i got the response that it isn't associated with any open command, which it is still as i checked afterwards so i guess it didn't work.

the reason it has been changed to open with photo viewer is that i did it by mistake and clicked whatever to get the menu off i was never trying to look at the file as i have no need to its just a mod but with it being open with it messes with everything. i would have never imagine it was so hard to reverse such a simple action.

I can not think of another way unless you know how to edit it in the registry. Do you use Windows Photo Viewer ? As mentioned before you can remove it from link i gave you, as you can use Photos in Windows 10 this is the newer app for Windows 10. Might help this issue if you removed and restored it also or just remove it and use Photos app for picture viewing alone in future. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...dows-10-a.html
