My 2710 has been sitting in a closet for a year since I couldn't find a solution and was told by a repair tech that it needed a motherboard. Today I found this: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...OuPbGDdGwr0viA

I carefully followed the instructions and IT WORKED!!!
NO NEED TO REPLACE BIOS CHIP, JUST RE-FLASH!!!

I have a 2710 with similar issues discussed here. I've ordered the bios chip and received it. Does anyone have the exact location of the chip that needs to be replaced. Looks like there are two potential locations. I'm thinking it's the one near the letters ""rom". Anyone know for sure? Thanks.
Bios chips aren`t replaceable. They are part of the motherboard. Only the bios itself can be upgraded/flashed.

And in no way could Windows 10 "Break" a computer.

I also agree. A BIOS chip can be replaced, it can be a pain but is no way impossible.

Well I`ll be, I`ve never heard of or even seen that done, thought it was ROM soldered to the board. Out in the field we would never replace a part like that, they just order a new board.

Hence people have always said, if you screw up during a bios update you could brick the board.

I`d love to see a picture of a board with it pointed out :)

    Nevermind :)

Wow, you linked the same one I did, amazing

That`s an Asrock board, would the same thing be true for a Dell or an HP or Lenovo or a Fujitsu ?

Dell and HP boards are made by Asrock and most of the others. Asrock started business as an OEM supplier of boards. The chips were soldered on quite a few years ago, but even they could be replaced, but it takes a lot more technical ability than the newer boards do.

That was the first video in the search list.

Ya I never have to deal with that, just slap in a new board.

I suppose Mike and I have one of them under our Armour/plastic cover ? And you have one on your Z77 and X99 ?

And Asus would have that part if we ever needed it ?
