I checked with my service tag my warranty ran out 8 mths after i got it. this is directly off the dell site on the page with my computers personal specs:
Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade

Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.

then there are multiple forums about how windows ten caused this model of computer to give black screens of nothing there are numerous ones for sale on ebay that wont turn on seems to be a problem but dell doesnt sell the mother boards for this computer :@

As for a copy of the operating system i dont believe it had an option to even do that ive done this for laptops but could not find the option in this pc

Forums - Software Operating Systems - Dell Community

this entire forum is fll of people that have lost their machines to windows 10...

Ill google the cmos and see if i can figure that out thank you

That is indeed some scary reading. Seems like the only thing to do is stay with 8.1 and do your best to avoid Windows 10 on this computer in the future. I'm not sure you'll be able to when Microsoft gets more agressive in pushing Windows 10 on to any computer it thinks is compatible, whether it is or not.

    angrycompowner : I sent you a PM

I read the link you provided, and I do not see a forum full of people with the issue you have, I see complaining because non compatibility was stated, I see forum members who have successfully installed, and I see random accounts of issues.

My point being, dont give up.... there is an answer there, and I am certain it does not require a motherboard replacement. You would have to prove that to me for me to consider how that is even possible.

    So, a question for you?

How prepared was your computer for this upgrade?

What is the boot error message? If it is no boot message or weird boot message. It maybe fixable but it very complicated to fix.

The link provided had instances of having to replace the motherboard multiple times in one or more cases. How much more specific does it need to be?

    For instance:
Unfortunately the post above is true!!!! I had a three year extended warranty and Dell have now replaced the motherboard twice to "fix" the problem with Windows 10. Do not put Windows 10 anywhere near your Dell One!!

The engineer who came to replace the motherboard, memory AND hard drive told me that he had now seen 20 Dell One XPS PCs completely broken - and Windows Update in Windows 10 was the cause. I didn't believe him - how could running an update "fry" the motherboard? But in fact it WAS immediately after the reboot after Windows update that the machine completely died and the motherboard had to be replaced. Twice!

    Here's my story.

After installing Windows 10 automatic updates are the new norm. When the machine rebooted it went into a loop of "WPF violation" and "Inaccessible boot drive". Some have suggested that this is to do with Windows update trashing the SSD because of some Intel "go faster" technology. The only way out is to unplug the power lead. The trouble is when you then plug the power in you get nothing other than brief "grey" flash of the screen. No Dell logo. No BIOS access. Nothing other than the relatively silent whir of the fan.

When this happened the first time Dell came on site and replaced the motherboard under my extended warranty. The machine booted into Windows but gave the same "Inaccessible boot device"/"WPF Violation" error blue screen of death that went into a loop. Then, just as before, after the power was disconnected it was dead for good - no Dell logo, no BIOS access.

A second engineer came on site and said everything else on the PC tested fine so it would have to be repaired by Dell themselves (on site engineers are subcontractors). For "next day on site support" this turned out to be a nightmare. I had to wait 4 days for an empty box to be shipped from Germany. Then I had to wait again for UPS to come and collect the PC after I'd phoned them. I was told that Dell would run extensive diagnostics on the box to determine what the real problem was. So it was very disappointing over 2 weeks later to just have the PC returned with a slip of paper saying the motherboard had been replaced (again!)

I think you can guess what happened next. I powered it up. It booted into Windows 10 fine and the world was good. Then Windows Update ran and had a load of new updates requiring a reboot. The machine rebooted and then went into a loop with the error "WPF Violation". Just like the time before I unplugged the power supply and then plugged it back in again and the PC was back to its "dead other than the fan whirring" state.

An engineer came out again and he was the one who told me that WIndows Update was definitely the cause and if I had to have Windows 10 on the PC (I need Windows 10 as I'm a developer and that's our base platform) then to disconnect the PC from the internet and never run Windows Update. That's impractical and unrealistic so I've resigned myself to never being able to run anything other than Windows 8.1 on this oversized piece of junk. I say "piece of junk" because this is by far the worst PC I've ever owned, and has been from day one (when it was delivered with a BIOS error that required talk through on the phone to change settings to get the basic Windows install to work). I know it's only an i5 processor but having to wait 40 seconds after you click on Windows Explorer or 2 minutes for an internet site to show (when you're running 150MB broadband) on a PC that has very little software installed on it is ridiculous.

I'm advising everyone I know to steer well clear of the Dell XPS One. It may look pretty (the screen IS beautiful) but it's a nightmare of a PC, and this latest Windows 10 fiasco is just the last straw.
I agree it's scary and have to admit I was sceptical when the engineer told me - but it did tie up with my experience.
The Twitter DellCare account have been steering though all the issue when I tweeted a mini rant about "next day on site support equating to four weeks without a PC", and have generally been excellent in taking ownership of the issues and making things happen, but I thought it was interesting when I passed on what the engineer had told me they made no comment at all.

I really want to get Windows 10 installed on this PC, but after two replacement motherboards with the exact same systems straight after Windows Update ran I'm inclined to believe the engineer and not risk it. I've had no desktop PC for several weeks now (still waiting for WIndows 8 OEM CD so I can get it up and running again) and really can't afford to be without one for another few weeks, especially since my extended warranty has JUST finished and Windows 10 is not officially supported anyway (although that doesn't stop Dell software nagging you that it's noticed you've upgraded to Windows 10 and need to run their backup software, or that any Check compatibility tests from Microsoft you run indicate the upgrade will run fine).
It's not scary at all, just had the same experience. Windows 10 ran fne for a few months (at least the upgrade from 8.1 to 10), then blue screen where it complained about an intel rapid storage driver which got updated overnight. A few attempts with Windows recovery ended with the only option to perfrom a clean install for Windows 10. It booted once with a clean version and got bricked at the next boot. No way to access anything, screen blinks and fan turns...
Dell kindly replaced the motherboard and reinstalled the original image with win8.1...
I am sticking the win8.1 for this machine, but this is my first and last Dell... ( I am very happy with the support, but am shocked that I can brick the MB with OS upgrade) I think it is really unacceptable that I cannot upgrade the OS to win 10 from a machine designed and certified for win 8!
Windows actually states that my PC is compatible with Windows 10, unfortuneatly I have learned the hard way that it is not.
and 5 or 6 more like them. Maybe it's a driver problem (one of the Intel drivers) or some other driver but until it been positively identified and fixed I would not install Windows 10 on one of these computers.

I would like to get hands on with one of those "broken" computers because I believe that issue is fixable.

I still say that users with this issue should know/find out what key strokes they need to hit to get into various aspects of the bios menu, and attempt to run a linux live distro to verify if the hardware is shot or not

Two things to remember with this model of Dell,

    1. Despite it being sold as a desktop, it is nothing more than a glorified laptop.

    2. Dell is well known for locking out and/or blocking many bios functions.

Number one shouldn't have any affect on Windows 10 installing and running other than any necessary drivers will have to be the laptop/mobility version instead of desktop.

Number two could be the problem, but try getting Dell to admit it if it is. If that is the cause of the problem(s), Dell will blame anyone and everyone but themselves, even more so now that that particular model is discontinued.
