THREE Recovery partitions?

I would leave it as it is (you can extend C to use the free 148GB).

Ideally (according to MS anyway) the recovery partition would be partition 1. Like this
    Code:
    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586]
    (c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>diskpart

    Microsoft DiskPart version 10.0.10586

    Copyright (C) 1999-2013 Microsoft Corporation.
    On computer: HALI-WIN10

    DISKPART> select disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list partition

      Partition ### Type Size Offset
      ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
      Partition 1 Recovery 500 MB 20 KB
      Partition 2 System 200 MB 500 MB
      Partition 3 Reserved 16 MB 701 MB
      Partition 4 Primary 110 GB 717 MB

    DISKPART>

To do that before extending C you'd have to move it 500MB to the right, then System reserved 500MB to the right, then recovery to the far left (position 1) then extend C. Finally then re-register WinRE in Partition 1. Hope that makes sense :)

However lots of OEM seem to put the recovery on the right (like you have it) so if it is working I'd leave it.

Yes, that is how I want to make mine look, just like you have it here. And I understand your instructions of where to move things. What I cannot figure out is how to move the recovery to the far left position. I am using MiniTool Partition Wizard and it won't let me move anything to the left unless there is blank space adjacent. That is, it won't let me "jump over" the system partition to get to the far left. I can free up space at the left, but then I am stuck since I cannot move the recovery there. How do I do that?

You have to copy the recovery partition into the free space at the beginning of the disc instead of moving it. Then you will have to assign it a drive letter and run the reagentc /setreimage /path command again.

Ok, thanks. So how do I copy the recovery partition into the free space at the beginning of the disk? That is, what are the actual steps/commands to do that?

In MinTool Partition Wizard you highlight the existing recovery partition and click the copy icon then you select the free space at the beginning of the disk to copy it to.

Everbody seems to be forgetting the 16MB msr partition that cannot be moved even with tools like minitool partition manager. No only do you have to move partitiins around, you need to delete and recreate the partition.

All that needs to be done here as said earlier is move recovery to far right and expand c drive so order is

    efi, msr, c drive, recovery.

It does not matter in the slightest if recovery is at one end or other end.

All my pcs which were upgrades to 10 are setup like that.

The recommended order is simply to have the three sysytem partitions on left, followed by c drive, then it is easy to shrink c drive and create other drive partitions to left using windows. It is not a requirement of eufi.

You would go though a lot of effort, with a risk of screwing things up for ABSOLUTELY NO GAIN!

I just delete it. Never had a negative impact with it gone.

True but defeats the point of OP trying to get the ideal (but pointless here) layout!

That is exactly why I wanted to re-order things, to make it easier to shrink and expand C drive. This helps somewhat in making backups and moving to a smaller hard drive. For whatever reason, I do not have the 16MB msr. I made plenty of backup images before fooling around with this, otherwise I would definitely leave well enough alone.

Thank you! That is what I was missing. I had to use copy instead of move (don't know why, but I am OK with that). I have successfully gotten things in the recommended order and everything is working. Pointless as it may seem, I am now happy and I feel I learned a little bit. And now I can shrink/expand the used part of the drive easily. Thank you for you help, I really appreciate it.
