    OneDrive Sync

    Hello Good People,
Despite looking around, I don't understand how the sync works.

First, is there a master, so to speak. ie does the cloud version mimic the PC files. ie if there is a file on my PC and not on the cloud, will the cloud get updated? An then, if a file gets deleted on my PC, does that file get deleted from the cloud?

And is the One Drive folder in Users on my PC really an actual folder on my C:\users, or is one of these "smart" folders that is where?

    Grateful for any help.
    Regards
    Doug

This "how-to" may help even though it mentions Win8/8.1:

Also see this information, it impacted my decision on some storage issues:
Microsoft to Discontinue Unlimited OneDrive Storage

    Hello

Is there any way to get more granular settings? Is there a way to make one device the Master device and all others sync from it?

I am having trouble keeping my internet explorer favorites bar the way I want it. Every time I make a change the sync process causes it to duplicate the shortcut I just renamed by copying back the one from the "server" that had the original name. I want my main computer to tell the server who's boss and to overwrite the server settings.

You can open up the onedrive folder on your computer and delete or move items into it, and it will sync to the server. You can also do this on the server, and it will update to the folder. That is how it works. Usually if you just refresh the folder, it should update with changes made to it. Yes, it is really a folder, and really takes up space on your computer. The location is C:\Users\[USRNAME]\OneDrive\

Thanks for the input. It's much appreciated.

Like "DawnTreader", I am confused. If I have a home PC, a work PC a smartphone and an iPad, something has to be the master copy. I must be not understanding how it all works.

    Merry Christmas to all

But that isn't how it works... It updates as soon as you change something on any one device. Then you can change something on another device, and it will update for all devices.

Then why is it that when I rename a link in my favorites bar for internet explorer that a "new" link pops up with the name of the old one? Honestly I don't even know if this is a problem with one drive or something else. but I am really frustrated with how this seems to be working.

It seems as though the server somewhere that is storing my system settings is "winning" over the device that I work on most.

^ you're right, that isn't a OneDrive issue. I'm not sure of the solution for you, unfortunately
