In that case, please go ahead and post screenshots showing your owner and permission settings for the ShellFolder key to see if it may reveal a cause. Be sure to blank out any email address in it first.

    Homer,

See if changing the owner to "Administrators" (group) instead of "Administrator" (built-in account), may allow you to afterwards.

    OK thanks, will do.

I have another issue which keeps happening. Not major I know, but again, it didn't happen with Win7.

The "ENG" language selector icon, bottom right, will not let me disable it. It's always right back there when I reboot.

I unselected it, reboot, it's selected again. 3 times now.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? I see from a quick google search that this is a common problem

It would be best to create a new thread for the other issue so as to keep this thread on topic.

Incidentally, I've followed instructions from those links. I've also followed instructions I've found elsewhere for other problems (the "ENG" icon still will not go away but I've done exactly what the instructions said.

I'm going back to Win7. I appreciate the help people have tried to give me, but this OS is a joke. I shouldn't have to use 3rd party apps to get my OS to work properly. I don't know why MS would remove my ability to do certain things like decide what displays and what doesn't. I don't know why videos suddenly stop playing and display "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem..." when it played the day before and I haven't changed any settings.

Perhaps my computer is wearing out or overheating. I've noticed Win10 makes it run a lot louder than did Win7. Either way, bring on Win11!

You would enter the name "administrators" just like in step 7 of OPTION FOUR below.

OK, did that, this time it allowed me to do it, but there are still only 2 options available - (Default) and FolderValueFlags.

I'm not an expert in "ownership". I'm not sure why, since I'm signed in as administrator, I don't automatically have ownership of everything. I have no idea what I actually just did. Why are there 2 entries for several things, one "full control" and one "read" only? Does this matter?

But anyway, it still doesn't work. "Attributes", as in step 3 here doesn't display

Please give more details about it still does not work.

It looks like you do in your screenshot, but double check using step 4 in OPTION TWO below to make sure that you have "Full control" checked for the selected "Administrators".
