How to get into Safe Mode in Windows 10 + Tool bar

    Hi,

I'm using Windows 8.1 and know how to get into safe mode on that operating system.

However, my friend has Windows 10 Home Edition and I've never had exposure to it in the past.

    Question.

How does one get into Safe Mode?

Also, how can you get the toolbar back on the page as like Windows 7 and Windows 8.1? (See attached pic)

In Windows 8.1 it was very simple and straight forward, but Windows 10 huh, different ball game all together.

Any guidance / help is appreciated.

    Cheers, Bondy99

To get to safe mode, click on the power icon - either at the login screen or on the start menu - hold down shift when you click restart. Then troubleshoot -> advanced options -> startup settings -> restart (or something like that...)

RE : How does one get into Safe Mode?
    1. If you are already signed in............. Right click at Start > click Run > type msconfig > OK > click Boot at top > under Boot options, check the box " Safe boot" > click Ok > restart. You will be on Safe Mode after restart.
If you want to go back to normal mode, repeat the steps above but UN-check the box "Safe boot".

    2. If you are not signed in .......... at the sign in screen, bottom right is the Power icon. Left click at it will give you Restart.
Press SHIFT key and Hold > click Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced Settings > Startup Settings > right side, click the Restart button > next screen will give you Safe Mode selections.

Thanks very much for your help NavyLCDR, Kyhi and davidhk.

I appreciate the guidance given, I'll leave this topic still open in case something goes bit skewey.

In about 2 or 3 days time when I navigate my way through my friends Windows 10, I'll see how it goes with the instructions provided.

Is there any way to query this and see if I have it set? I vaguely remember doing this at some point.

    @ Ztrucker,

It would be interesting to know, but I wont be able to get to my friends Windows 10 until later in the week.

    @Kyhi,

What do you mean by "From an elevated command prompt type> bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

From an elevated command prompt type> bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu True"

I'm still a novice. I never heard that expression before "From an elevated command prompt".

Whereabouts do you find that, in simpler terms?

    Thanks

From the right click menu on Start button you have two choices.
    Command Prompt
Command prompt (Admin), that's Elevated one.
    You can also change to:
    Windows Power shell
    Windows Power shell (Admin)
