Puzzled- how can the folders stay in the same order when your requirement is:
"Instead, I would prefer the most recent opened subfolder to automatically appear at the top of the pane."
"I don't want the file list to re-sort, but stay in the current order."

    - these seem inconsistent requirements.
The OP exlained quite clearly in the first message that the idea is to make File Explorer to automatically scroll the view so that last accessed folder appears at the top of the visible portion of a [very long] list. There's no need to "reorder" anything. And there's nothing inconsistent here.

Reordering folders would completely defeat the purpose of what the OP is trying to do.

Fine, I can't grasp what he wants and am happy to accept that.

Hi, you want to add info to folders.

How to Add Notes to File Folders | eHow
    - you can use the comments field in explorer, but need to use Advanced sharing, which means setting it as shared.
This may not be an approach you wish to take.

    Also noted this in passing:
Attach sticky notes to websites, documents, folders, programs / window

    - no idea how usable it is. It claims win 10 compatibility.

Yes, it's not the most eloquent way to describe what I was trying to accomplish initially. Here is a screenshot of what the desired outcome would be after backing out of the subfolder, with Big Head Todd at the top of the visible pane, not the bottom. I do appreciate the feedbck and suggestions. Thanks!

    Dalchina, thanks.

Yes, I encountered your first suggestion. But it isn't what I'm looking for, unfortunately. It looks like it will enable comments to be added (and I tried it), but it's only for that specific field, not the others. I'd like to be able to add the same attributes to make each folder searchable (ordered) by various tags.

I hadn't seen your second suggestion but will check it out later and post back.

    Thanks!

Perhaps I might be better served to use Access and incorporate the various folders into a database?

I'm an Excel guy, never really spent any time learning Access.

While I suspect I would be able to have much greater control over the entire project as a database, does anyone know how that might impact the ability to sync with Cloud for affected folders and files?

    Just throwing ideas out there...
