Nor mine; their walled garden is just too confining for me. Sadly, M$ has been trying desperately trying to follow the same direction.

    Hi there

A 7 inch backlit tablet is just TOO large to be a convenient portable phone --I am not a fan of "Phablets". A Samsung 5 or Iphone 6 is about the largest size I want from a portable device of that type.

For reading you can't beat a dedicated e-reader -- easy to read even in direct sunlight. Reading 7 inch tablets with backlight type of screens is not a pleasant experience when reading books. Kindles or even the older discontinued sony models are just fine for book reading.

I also would love to carry a large metal wrench (spanner) in my pocket to SMASH all those large devices (such as ipads / large phablets etc) people use when trying to take photos when they are right in front of me at a gig. I pay to SEE the gig - not the backsides of peoples electronic devices !!!!

    Cheers

To each their own. After using the 6” Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet, which is a thrill for me to use, I wouldn’t mind getting a 7”, but nothing bigger. I can get the 1520 with wallet case in my jean’s pocket with room to spare. I’m sure a 7” would fit. Of course I don’t wear pants so tight as to stop blood circulating. As soon as someone releases a Windows phablet in that size I’ll consider it.

A phablet alleviates the need to carry two devices, but they’re not meant to replace larger tablets, convertibles, or even a laptop. e.g. I don’t start an Excel workbook on my phablet, although I could, but I can read and edit them easily.

7-inch Samsung Galaxy W is Samsung's biggest phone yet - CNET

Some people can drive at night, while others find it difficult. I have no problems whatsoever reading on my 1520 in the light or the dark.

It’s not guns that kill > It’s the person using them.

If people had to pay for those out of pocket, it would be a different story. Because of the heavy carrier subsidies, it means they only have to pay 100 or 200 to get that expensive high end device. Yes, they pay for it in carrier fees over the life of their contract, but most people don't notice it...

I have a Kindle Reader (old style), and at the moment that seems to work for me. Would like a Surface 3 Pro, albeit just can't figure out what to do with it. Heck I haven't even used My Laptop in over a year.
I have the "Paperwhite" 1st edition, and I absolutely love it. I read myself to sleep every night. It turns itself off, and remembers where I left off. What's not to love.

I also have a laptop... rarely use it for anything other than a portable juke box for my deck in the summer.(plugged into a set of Logitech z-2200 speakers...)
