I love the way that the Start button gave me a simple way to get to both Modern and desktop apps in such a clean and simple way. IMO, a few tweaks to how Modern apps work with W10 are needed to make it just fine.

But, they seriously need to do some work on OneDrive issues. The current way in W10 just doesn't cut the mustard!

I think we will have to live with the tiles one way or the other. Those tiles are needed for the touchscreen portable devices. How else would you operate on a 5" phone screen. If MS wants to maintain the 1 system appraoch, then the desktop user will 'enjoy' tiles too.

Whether the implementation in the 10 start is a good one remains in the eye of the beholder. I prefer the 8.1 full page implementation and fortunately 10 allows to toggle to that.

it would be a 'final tragedy' if they goof up Onedrive. To me it is superior to every other cloud/drive thing out there right now except for the utter hamhanded clumsiness of linking any photos or docs to websites, or even making them available "publicly".
G-drive app for windows, I'm convinced, is malware :) ... it will kill an ordinary pc

I would get it for the discount price but install it 6 months later.

I was thinking more like buy it while discounted and install it four or five years later when Win 7 is approaching EOL.

Don't hold your breath; it didn't always happen after Vista and Win 7 came out. One of the reasons I didn't upgrade from XP to Vista when Vista came out and, later, when Win 7 first came out was I would have had to replace a perfectly good printer and scanner (ok, the scanner was a POS but it worked well enough) and it would have cost $450 to upgrade to a newer music notation program that would work with Vista or Win 7.

"Annoying" also varies from person to person. :)

IMO, a lot of the time when people say, "W8 is hard to use", they actually mean annoying.

Just to be clear, I'm not claiming that other versions of Windows were perfect.

For example, annoyances in W7:

• The OS ignores the "Read-only" attribute (Windows started doing this after XP)
• The Navigation pane's uncontrollable auto-scroll
• Apparently List view also has uncontrollable auto-scroll
• The horrible Network Manager which can't even determine that the network is actually working
• The extra clicks required to configure the OS, compared to XP
• The removal of customisable toolbars in Windows Explorer (and the Up arrow)

Some of those annoyances (if not all of them) were introduced in Vista.
Many of them continue through to W10.

One overall annoyance with all versions of Windows that I have used (excluding Server) is no advanced options during installation:

• Selecting User folder location
• Selecting Program folder location
• Selecting Features
• Exporting/importing installations selections to a file (Windows Server does have this)

Fedora and OpenSUSE could do this the last time I installed them (I'm not sure about export/import).
You could customise the the install from, Terminal only (no Help files) to install everything.

The only two things I found significantly annoying when I upgraded to Win 7 from XP was the photo viewer was a POS and the Camera and Scanner download wizard was just as bad. I replaced the photo viewer with the one in M$ Office. To download pictures from a camera card, I just do a copy/paste or drag/drop from the card to a folder, then, if necessary, remane them sequentially using Irfanview (a program I already had and used).

Do you think it's a coincidence that they're not releasing another version of the Preview until then?

Hmm.. I think that part of the reason is the holidays. Thanksgiving/Christmas vacations are going to leave MS(and other companies) a bit short handed so the new build is delayed as a result of that.

probably all the Ms staff were too busy fighting over TV sets in supermarkets on "Black Friday" -- now we seem to have Cyber Monday followed by Manic Monday and whatever next -- honestly does this stuff never cease -- what about a bit of peace and quiet rest at this time of year instead of rushing to buy things you don't really need anyway --what was it in the pied piper poem .... "Like lemmings to the sea......"

W10 was primarily rushed out to ease desktop users queries - especially businesses and so far it seems to have done the trick quite well.

Those that want or like things like Tiles, Touch,Metro etc -- it will come or work better in the next release(s). The initial W10 system was really aimed at businesses - many of whom just weren't interested in W8/W8.1 at any price.

Many complaints are from people using this as an EVERYDAY OS which really wasn't the purpose of the trials. The fact that many people ARE using it successfully shows that even for pre BETA software its done a pretty good job. I don't have too many problems with it at this stage in its development cycle either as a VM or running on a real machine.

I started this thread and I can say I'm still not impressed. I had to "refresh" Win 10 on Sunday as one of the updates caused a problem. But, I can live with that as its to be expected with a Beta program. I had to reinstall my Recording Studio program, Sonar X3, after the refresh. One of the things I was investigating was whether Sonar X3 would install and run in Win 10. There was a report from a user on the Cakewalk Sonar forums that they couldn't install Sonar X3 and had an error.
