Windows snapping keyboard shortcut hotkeys not working

I was a little hesitant to respond as actually it seems as if your post is already quite old indeed (Nov 2015??? "Notice: This is an old thread. The last post was 215 days ago. If your post is not directly related to this discussion please consider making a new thread." ) and apparently no one has taken the effort or has been able to respond to your question so far...?

Anyway, indeed the two of us might be experiencing the same problem currently on Windows 10. I was also a bit surprised after having 'upgraded' from Win7 to Win10 a few days ago that the keyboard shortcuts that I used to use in Win7 (or Win8 or 8.1, for that matter) didn't seem to work equally in Win10. To be specific, I found that it was still possible to "snap" a particular active window to the left or right side of the screen by using the "Win + Left" or "Win + Right" keyboard combinations. However, trying to then snap the still active window to the other side of the screen (e.g., from right to left) by alternating the arrow key while holding the Win key down apparently produced nothing (except from perhaps a brief 'nudge' to the left or right border of the active window, depending on whether it was snapped to the right resp. left side of the screen).

Thanks mainly to MS Support I 'discovered' (or, rather, was actually demonstrated by MS Support) the following 'workaround': when intending to snap the active window to the alternate (that is, either left or right) side of the screen, first use the "Win + Up" or "Win + Down" keyboard combinations (by pressing the 'Up' or 'Down' arrow keys while holding the Win key down) to partially minimize or 'maximize' that currently active window, and only then select the alternate 'Left' or 'Right' arrow key. This indeed will then 'finally' snap the active window to the alternate side of the screen. (Yes, indeed this involves slightly more 'work' than it used to do in Win7/8/8.1, but as said I found it to be a 'workaround' at least...)

However (and perhaps more importantly), I also seem to have discovered just now that using the above-mentioned 'workaround' might actually not be necessary at all if one first 'plays around a bit' with Win10's 'snap' feature using mouse input, i.e. as described on e.g. "http://www.techrepublic.com/article/snap-a-truly-slick-feature-in-windows-10/". It actually (and, IMO, rather amazingly) seems as if this 'teaches' the OS (aka Win10) the 'limits of the screen' or the like. After having done this with just one active window, I now seem to be able to use the keyboard shortcuts to "snap" any active window in the way I was used to do in Win7/8/8.1 .

If all of this appears to be rather vague and/or erratic to you then I agree - however, at least I now appear to be 'back' to a 'workable' situation again, 'even' in Windows 10...

I just ran into this issue, and have a potential solution. First, a hat tip to qweerie for mentioning about the vanishing app. That proved to be key to the solution to my issue.

To solve:
1. Look through the taskbar to find the offending program. I.E., click on each open program on the taskbar and see if it comes up onscreen.
2. Once you find the program, then click Shift + Right-click mouse button. This will bring up the "classic" context menu. Click Maximize.
3. The above will make the program visible again. In my case, that restored the Win + arrow key snap functionality.
