Help me make a choice here...

I've read and heard more and more about Windows 10's streaming capabilities with the Xbone, and it sounds amazing. I read in an interview that Microsoft is looking into supporting the streaming feature across different networks, which is huge. Failing that, there have been people much smarter than me that have devised ways using VPNs to do this already.

Now, with that in mind, I'm torn between getting just a cheap laptop loaded with Win 10, or a Surface 3. The portability is mainly what I'm going after, as I already got a couple desktops.

I'd mostly use my laptop\Surface for streaming, Adobe programs (CS5.5, so something outdated and lighter than the newest stuff), and the occasional Steam game. What should I do here?

I like the Surface because it'll probably be slightly more powerful than whatever laptop I would get, but that isn't definite. I also like how I can have it turn into a regular tablet whenever I want basically buy removing the keyboard. It just seems like it may be more versatile.

A laptop would be easier for me in terms of familiarity, though, and I could put DVDs into it's disc drive and watch the movies I have. Also, it would be a lot cheaper.

I can tell you what I did. I have my laptop that I use for real computer stuff and then I paid $150 at WalMart for a Nextbook Flexx 10 cheapo Windows tablet that I absolutely love!

As far as setting up VPN - it's pretty easy if you have a router with VPN capability built in.

I would use the one-time discount to get a laptop. The $149 price on the Nextbook Flexx 10 tablet was the online price and the store matched it for me. You will have a little bit of issue with drivers when you install Windows 10 on it. I highly recommend saving a Macrium Reflect Free image of the memory before upgrading to Windows 10 and also use the DISM /Export-Driver function to save all the third party drivers to a USB stick.

Well, that's just me. If I have any kind of real work to do or playing any kind of half-way serious game - or even editing photos, etc. - I would be unhappy doing that on a tablet. But when I am in my hot tub, I like to set up my Bluetooth speakers, prop up the tablet on it's stand/case, and watch a movie. Be warned, though, the Nextbook Flexx 10 keyboard is not tolerant of water/high humidity AT ALL. If you are going to use the tablet on the edge of a hot tub, leave the keyboard behind!
