Desktop icons not showing

No I have not used third party programs that alter the way windows looks.

Also please note I did not have this problem before I installed update 1511.

This is one of many problems caused by update 1511 but the majority other problems I have managed to solve until this current problem occured.

A couple of questions,

Do the shortcuts work? Do they open whatever they are supposed to and just not show the icon or do they not work at all?

If you make another shortcut on the desktop does that work? If you make a shortcut somewhere else (in Documents folder for example) does that?

Can you right click on one of them and post the properties (all the tabs - General, Shortcut, Security etc).

Yes shortcuts do work but do not show Icons.

If I make another shortcut on desktop I have the same problem text but no icon.

I right click on them and select properties and nothing happens.

If I do a search in explorer icons seem to be OK.

I will see later on today if I can make a shortcut somewhere else (in Documents folder for example) and post results.

Problem was with registry I checked values with other PC and altered them and now all works again.

Could you please report "what" you fixed in the registry as I have the exact same problem an just posted a question of my own. If you have already solved this please share the information with others.

Thanks! If you check out the thread I started, I added my own solution to the problem which is more like a work-around as there is still a real problem to be resolved.
What is happening is that the correct location for the proper icons is not being maintained and the shortcut ends up with the default of "shell32.dll" which gives it the first icon in the list there, a blank white page.
