    This is what I hope Continuum is going to evolve into, giving more of the 8.1 experience

    Giving people the option of the 8.1 look/feel or the new 10 look
    I assume you mean the start scree that was accessible in Win8.1.. then yes it would be nice to have that as an option.
    Mainly thinking tablet wise, but would be nice as options for all to have

    Start Screen similar to 8.1, no taskbar visible on it, all apps accessible via swiping up not permanently on the screen
    Access to options etc easily via a right swipe on screen, all options accessible easily and within reach (no moving hand to access the hamburger menu), like charms in 8.1
    app switching as above, but accessed via left side swiping, all running apps shown at left so can switch without moving hand over the screen, as in 8.1
    no taskbar when running apps
    closing apps returns to the start screen
    desktop as an option if required (for some reason it is disabled when continuum is used, but can access it and do nothing with it)

    In Windows 8.1 on desktop, I don't get the App Switcher when swiping in from the left, I get each app sliding into view one by one;
    in Windows 10 I get the 'App Chooser'.

    It will never be exactly like 8.1 just as much as much as it won't be exactly like 7. The big disappointment for me is that everything opens on the desktop, unlike like in 8.1 the Desktop is treated as an app. Even switching to use the Start screen in 10 we're left staring at the Desktop when closing an app. Hopefully there will be an option to return to the Start screen at least. Right now it's a jumbled mess IMO.

    If you have a Store app open when on the Desktop the left App Switcher will appear, otherwise not. There are actually 2 App Switchers > One Modern and one Desktop that's been there since Vista? I think Vista. Don't remember. The Modern one doesn't show Desktop apps, but the Desktop one shows Store apps.

    I hope so as well HG. It's always nice to have options.

    This is what I get swiping in from the left in W8.1 (touch, no mouse)

    i actually like the new start menu better than 8.1, but i do not like the idea of having to dig into windows explorer to make a shortcut to the dekstop, that should be added as an option in the start menu when you right click. Now you only have the option when right click to pin to the taskbar or startup

    There will be options to either choose the start menu or start screen, lets just hope MS keeps at that.

    Unfortunately I don't think we'll get the option, but I could be wrong.

    I wouldn't mind having two Start buttons, one for classic 8/8.1 Apps screen and other as it is now. One round, one square and everybody happy.
