From what I have read on here, desktop/non touch only have new Start Menu, touch devices have the option of either
What I'm hoping for is that W10 will eventually boot to the Start Screen on non touch screen devices as well. It may be the deciding factor on whether I buy W10 when the finished product comes out.
Do you guys have these options available? It works on my desktop PC:

Boot to Start Screen - Edwin000's library
Hi Edwin. I made a boo boo when I said "boot to Start Screen". I knew that was available. What I am really interested in is the same feature in W8.1 that allows the user to go back to the Start Screen when an App is closed. With W10 it seems like even if you have the feature "Go back to the Start Menu when an App is closed" unchecked, it still goes back to the Desktop after closing something like the Weather App, instead of the Start Screen. I'm still running build 9860, so I'm not sure if that feature works in the newest build.

LOL! Just looked for that first thing this morning, LJ. There doesn't seem to be a way that I can see. The big difference between 8.x and 10, of course, is that the Modern apps open on the desktop as well. When closing we're left at the desktop only to press the Windows key, which is not that bad. We shall see what Continuum does.

I think the Start Screen actually opens on the desktop as well just like the Start Menu and Modern apps. Another thing I've noticed is that the Apps screen now slides up from the bottom of the Start Screen instead of the top as in 8.x. Ctrl/Tab is the key combo.

Edwin, I meant to ask you if that was in the last build also?
I think so..., yeah, I'm pretty sure it was.
Thanks. At least I learned the Start Menu enough to know that I continue not to like them.

Thanks for confirming HG. I know it's just an extra step to get to back to the Start Screen, but it seems rather counter-productive to me. Hopefully, like you say, the final product will allow us to configure W10 to work like W8.1, if that is what we like.

    You're welcome. :)

BTW, I'm kind of surprised at your change using the Start Screen after all this time. This officially makes you a fanboi.

Since the 8.1 upgrade, I've alternated between the Start Screen and Classic Shell. But finally made the decision to go with the Start Screen full time just before W10 appeared on the scene.

I used Classic Shell on Win 8 because I loathed (and still do) the Start Screen, but when I went to 8.1 I set the All Apps screen up to be my 'start menu'. Left-clicking on the Start button took me directly to All Apps. I've never even SEEN the 8.1 Start Screen except when demo-ing it to someone, and haven't even bothered to config or customise it.

Now in this beta I can't get to All Apps without a lot of faffing about, and can't get back to the desktop with a top-left-click as before, but must instead find and click a tile. Not happy, Jan!

Why the Start menu doesn't actually GO to All Apps when you click on it, instead of columnising it in the Start menu is beyond me. As I now prefer to use All Apps as a start menu, I see little to no advantage for me in this Start menu at all. Thank Heaven they haven't (yet) pulled the old Quick-Launch toolbar out, as I'll probably just dump the Start menu and continue to use All Apps and Quick-Launch, as I have been doing in 8.1.

Yes, I know it's a beta, and yes I know there will (might) be improvements made. But so far I see nothing much that's an improvement over 8.1 (I'm on build 9841 and am NOT taking auto-updates, due to a limited monthly quota).
