My Windows 10 Experience And Some Suggestions

Hi, my name is Robert and I have been a windows user and computer diagnostics and repair tech since the end days of win 3.11, I have seen and worked with every version of windows that has come down the pipe.

On my personal laptop and desktop computers they are both running windows 10 (started out as an insider, then upgrade install, and now clean install's on both) both of those computers have solid state hard drive, 4gb ram in the laptop, and 16gb for the desktop and I gotta tell you I observe that these computers are the fastest windows based computers I have ever had.

I mean insanely fast boot up, quick responses when doing windows task, and found that the browsers that I use every day, were much, much quicker under windows 10 as compared to my perfectly set up windows 7 systems.

I have been cruising this forum for awhile now, several times a day, just to get the pulse of the windows 10 user experiences, issues, ect... And alot of what I see are issues due to computers that were not ready to be upgraded....
out of date drivers, not having run a security sweep before attempting the upgrade, and leaving windows at default settings once the install had finished..........and it is my feeling that alot of those who are having frustrations could be avoided by proper preparation before hand.

To date I have ugraded or installed windows 10 on 30-40 computers and they were all without issue because I made sure the computer's were in shape to take the upgrade/install.

5 computers running win10 in my house, not a moments issue with them

I would be grateful if you could list the steps undertaken by yourself to get the computers "in shape".When Microsoft scanned my computer and told me it was ready to upgrade,it would now seem I was a fool to believe them.Win 7 and XP pro both operated faultlessly,Win 10 freezes, crashes, restarts without human help, whether idling or working. The Event log online help doesn't,all it gives is "Sorry, page not found".No hardware has ever been changed, just the OS.

    joeandmarg0:

If you have the option, you should consider backing up anything that you want to keep.

Then run a suite of internet threat programs, (Avast antivirus, spybot search & destroy, malwarebytes antimalware, superantispyware) these types of programs should be updated, and a full scan run with each program, either before or after running the scans, run Ccleaner Slim to clear the system of any garbage files.

Once you have done that, I would suggest either a factory restore of your original operating system, or do a clean install.

When windows 10 boots for the first time, and wants to setup windows 10 "do not choose express settings" rather, select customize and turn off all the tracking/spying aspects.

Once windows 10 has been installed and setup, run a program to check your system for driver updates such as driver booster, when you have updated drivers as necessary then make sure and re install, configure and update your internet threat programs.

PM me if you have additional questions,

The problem with Win 10 is the automatic update, which updates the drivers whether needed or not.A common event is "Driver Power State Failure",followed by a restart and normal operation for an indeterminate time before a repeat. One Event viewer error is "nvlddmkm",which Nvidea can't fix,see the informative article by jimbonbon on the Nvidea site. The other driver related event is "wudfrd" and the only available action for this is "manual or automatic".There are no flags in Device Manager, all drivers are shown to be updated AND working normally, yet it is a driver issue and is caused by Win 10.There are many more with this same issue,I don't believe in coincidences.

Old thread, sorry to bump this up again, but I just received the 'Driver Power State Failure' Bsod. I noticed in Event Viewer that Windows Update had an error logged. In Whocrashed "nvlddmkm" was flagged. Any more help with this?

News flash! The average computer user is not a computer tech. Windows 10 should be designed with this in mind. I suspect so many problems are coming about because there are just so many systems out there and so many users. Does Microsoft build its software with only tech heads in mind or do they cater for the everyday user? This should be the critical question.
The thing is most users who have purchased a brand new PC and ran the Windows 10 compatibility checker (as I did) were informed that Windows 10 would run on their PC. So I installed it in good faith and have had no end of problems ever since. The average PC user should not be expected to jump through numerous technical hoops every time there is an update. Sadly this has not been the case and many users have been left in the dark. I personally know of at least a dozen Windows 10 users who have become so disenchanted by the experience that they have wiped their drives and installed Windows 7. One thing the Microsoft techs in their ivory towers seem to forget is that every problem causes a huge loss of time and productivity for users. Techs will often advise people to delete their hard drive and re-install from a fresh ISO. They forget that if people are running businesses and their livelihood depends on a stable system, they simply cannot afford such constant interruptions and delays due to downtime. Many hours of entered data could also be at risk of being lost. We seem to be entering an age of back up, back up, back up, and then don't expect your new system to be able to cater for the back ups. It is all getting a bit ridiculous in the name of the almighty god called "The Upgrade". Well in my experience The Almighty Upgrade has become a very vengeful god and not one that can be counted on.

When Windows 10 first came out I love it now it is more like a annoying relative that won't go away. I already since using Windows 10 had to refresh reinstall it 5 times already. Something always gets corrupted. Either apps won't open anymore only a refresh fixes it. Printers stop working only a refresh fixes. GUI messes up you guessed it only a refresh fixes. CPU usages goes up to 100% and it slows everything down. Now with the recent 5th refresh I am having issues with file explorer starting to freeze up and/or crash at random.

I am getting tired of this POS OS and very soon I am switching over to a iMac. I just can't take it anymore. I actually got real sick from stress with this POS Windows 10 crap. Windows 7 I only had to reinstall one time after getting a new hard drive and I used it for about 4 years no real issues. Windows 8 I never had to reinstall but Windsucks 10 I am not going for a 6th reinstall.

    proper preparation before hand
Maybe you guys could publish a little guide explaining what that entails. The simple users will love you for that.

I can fully sympathise with your comments as I feel the same way at present. I jumped through numerous hoops to get Windows 10 Ver. 1511 installed on my machine. Eventually I did install it and everything was running smoothly, great PC performance, fast bootups. All running well. Then this morning I switch on the PC and it boots to the calendar screen. WT....? I click on the calendar screen and it changes to the password login screen. I have never had a password! I ask a Microsoft tech. His answer is to boot in Safe Mode and if that doesn't work perform a Clean Boot. Umm, how am I suppose to do this when I cannot get into Windows? Silence.
