AveYo....I changed to high performance but I can't find BIOS Setup, disable AMD Cool & Quiet and/or PowerNow
Vicky, Watch out for crooks calling as pseudo Microsoft employees with promises to fix your computer. Windows 10 has set their business on fire!
Thank you Theok...I've had them call and run across them online and told them what I think about them.
to find your bios, restart pc while tapping the delete key until bios appears. First though, use the "dxdiag" run command (without the quotation marks)to see what version of the bios you currently have. Type run in search, type dxdiag in the run open search box. Your PC manufacture should have the most current bios version for you machine on their website in the support drivers and bios section.
good luck
I just came across this a while ago. I hope this is not the same group of people you dealt with. :)
Feds Shut Down Phony Apple, Microsoft, Google Tech Support Scammers – Consumerist
I haven't dealt with Microsoft support for a while, but MS used to outsource their support. The people at the other end of the phone line appeared to be poorly trained and poorly paid script readers. If the problem doesn't appear on their screens, they're helpless. I imagine that the preferred way of dealing with that is to pass the buck.
Microsoft doesn't write drivers specific to third party hardware. If the drivers aren't included in the Windows installation or from Windows Update, the PC will probably run, but not well. I speculate that's what is happening here.
Whether AMD has provided good drivers for the PC in question (760G chipset), I'm not sure. I see that Asus offers no drivers newer than Win 7, which leads me to believe that they expect the best drivers to be present in the Windows installation. (The machine is supposed to support 8.1, which means that it ought to be OK under 10 as well.) The last BIOS update for the PC was in early 2012. That's not old chronologically, but it doesn't assure that it is fully supported by Asus or anyone else.
When MS offered 10 as a free upgrade through Windows Update, I wondered how well they were prepared to support people for whom the upgrade didn't go smoothly. The answer appears to be: not well enough. I imagine that the people who were most likely to get into trouble were mostly the same people who aren't familiar with the phrase "image your boot drive".
For most people with Windows 7, I suggest not going to 10. Just not worth the risk. While Win 8 is newer, I suggest upgrading from that, mainly because I thought that the integration of the desktop with the interface once known as Metro was really poor (and I thought that Metro was not the way to go on a desktop PC).
If you can get back to 7, perhaps using OS restore disks acquired from Asus, that may be the most agreeable solution. It's probably possible to modify a regular Windows 7 installation to use the SLP key in the machines BIOS, but I haven't done anything like that in a few years.
Probably a lot of Java Scripts, advertising related and otherwise. When I ran noscript in Firefox, allowing just the top site,
it pretty much tamed the CPU issues @ funkyjunkinteriors.net.
Somewhere back in 2006 Vista era I think. I was part of an enterprise user group and had paid ms support. I only used it once to get help setting up my system clock to refresh every 15 minutes. MS english speaking level 4 techs from Remond could not solve this problem over the course of several days. I finally solved this problem myself through web search. It turns out MS had the answer on their own web site: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/816042.. I cancelled the ms support and have not called MS since to resolve any issues. The end.
My problem will not be going away. I finally talked with someone from Asus who said there is no driver for Win 10 for my computer as some of you pointed out. When I asked him why someone didn't tell me that in my very first call to them, he said, "Well we won't say it doesn't work because it really does work....just not very well." After my rant, he said I could try the driver for 8.1 but it could trash the system so I won't be doing that. He offered me a 25% discount on the Win 7 program and I thanked him very much (not). I'm going to take a couple of days to think about what I want to do but I really want to thank each of you for taking the time to try to help me. I learn a lot from these forums....even though I can't always immediately use the knowledge.
Thanks, again.
