Replaced regedit.exe with an old one and it's working again. I think it's incredible that these blatant problems get through Microsoft's testing and then they linger for so long before finally getting fixed, if ever.

    Come on Microsoft!
How would I get that older version? My Win 10 came pre-installed on this recently new notebook.

No idea. Just use one of these free registry editors with search

Sergey Filippov Registry Finder (and editor)
    Registry Finder

Resplendence Registry Manager - Free and Pay Versions. I've used the paid version for years.
    http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

    O&O RegEditor
    OO RegEditor

Search Only - Opens results in Regedit:
    Nirsoft RegScanner

Type "winver" from your dos prompt (ADMIN) then tell us what version you are running.....Latest version is 1511 Build 10586.36

It is already discussed, see prev. pages (and I don't know better methods too, unless someone upload this stuff somewhere, violating their copyright by that).
