I'll also dig up the thread because I've just tried it myself, maybe my feedback will help someone.

@VentZer0
Deleting the CLSID wasn't enough?

I did following:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}\ShellFolder
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}\ShellFolder
Changed "Attributes" from 200001a0 to 000001a0

The ZIP file could no longer be opened and were not displayed as a folder.
However, the "Compressed Folder Tools" tab was still there, even after I deleted the CLSID completely and even after deleting all zipfldr.dll entries in the registry.

For Cab files it should be the CLSID "0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262".
