Start menu not working until reboot

    Hello all,

I occasionally (but frequently enough that it is noticeable) get an unresponsive start menu. When this happens Win+P for display switching also does not work.

The start menu starts working after a reboot and only after a reboot. Obviously this gets annoying because of all the windows I have to reopen.

What I've tried when the start menu stops working:
    1. sfc /scannow - this doesn't show any errors
    2. Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} - the process finishes but the start menu doesn't start working anyway

Any thoughts on the matter? I really hate restarting the PC when this happens.

    Thanks

Is that all? On the laptop I upgraded of course already having expected the need for a Clean Install of 10 to replace the Buggy upgrade seen often the Start menu would open but lacked the Start button as well as seeing a blank Settings screen and no access at to the AllApps. That upgrade was replaced faster then you would say "Windows 10 is ..."!!!

The unfortunately part is that everyone accustomed to previously seeing every new version start off with a clean install is now using the Upgrade Install option and wondering why all the problems are being seen. You can thank the MS "Brilliance"? for this latest fiasco of endless headaches and the more then likely need to simply call it a day and put on a nice working clean install of 10!

Someone else can't left click on the Task bar or bring up the right click menu on the Start button as just another upgrade bug being reported. What this all amounts to is the 10 installer not seeing everything fully installed as you would normally see with a full clean install. Upgrades also tend to pick up on anything buggy from the existing previous version's installation and carrying that into the upgrade install bringing in a few more issues as well.

Lately one thing I have been observing has been with the Task bar and not the Start menu at all as far as nothing happening regardless of which icon is clicked on until signing out and then back in to watch 10 load the desktop fully. It seems 10 arrives incomplete which I think you are running into there. I would say try signing out only not a full restart and sign back in using the local account if you have any MS accounts active.

What this could be a result of would be an update recently put on causing an issue. Or as another possible cause you would need to look at just what programs you have installed since the clean install first went on especially anything just seen lately that could be a concern. If you remember a specific day before this was first noticed you could also use a System Restore point to roll things back to that time. That would correct any registry problem while I think this is either 10 not loading up fully or some process starting up with 10 may be the culprit.
