What's a computer? Surely tablets and smartphones should be counted. TVs, cars, coffee makers; we are swimming in computers. And they all have problems. Just this morning my stupid coffee maker decided not to turn itself on as scheduled, very annoying.
It certainly has a different meaning these days. Oldies like me usually hear the word computer and think laptop desktop. Like you mention though, now you have tablets, smart phones, smart TV's? That's why I mentioned having two Raspberry Pi's. They are single board computers. They won't run Windows (other than the IoT version) but will run Linux etc. IMHO Windows 10 IoT, is not Windows.

I build my own desktop PC's so I usually have at least one spare kicking around. Once I build my next desktop the third man out will be given away as I won't need it anymore. Actually I could do quit easily with just the one desktop PC. I have my laptop as backup if it crashes etc. I could also replace the media center tower with another Raspberry Pi. The only thing I'd lose is Netflix. Which I should probably cancel anyway as we hardly watch it.

    Number of Computers (1.1bn) / Number of People(11.2bn) = 0,098

So (if you believe the numbers/definitions and so on), for every 10 people globally, 1 owns a computer.

The average person owns 10% (if you want to put it like that) of a computer (or a 1/10 chance of owning one) which is a lot more than I expected actually.

I've got 5 (2 of which don't really work any more) which skews it very very slightly..

Yeah, I imagine the distribution curve on that looks more like a slug with his head up and his tail stretched way out more than a classic bell curve. - LOL

Can you post a picture of a classic bell* curve? I've no idea what it looks like.

And here's what I alluded too with the "slug" analogy, except perhaps even more exaggerated (even more "negatively skewed") with respect to the "classic bell curve", i.e., "normal probabilty distribution" curve, that Cliff provided a link for:
How many computers does the average individual own?-negatively-skewed.jpg
Meaning a "decent" number of folks with many devices but a much larger number of folks with only one, and an even greater number of folks with none.

And this is why it's called a Bell curve, notice the shape

Where is the end then? I thought with a big picture of a bell you had to have a bell ...

    Oh never mind.
