How safe is it to install it on a spare drive in my PC?

Guys since we're on the topic of dual booting I have one more question. When I turn my computer on and get to the dual boot screen, if I select Windows 7 my computer fully restarts (from black screen, to the BIOS splash screen) and then boots to Windows 7, this time without showing the dual boot screen. If I select Windows 10, it boots into that without restarting. It's not a big deal, but it's a little annoying when I have to restart and boot into Windows 7 multiple times for updates, installations/uninstallations, ect. Is there a way to make it like Windows 10 where my computer doesn't have to restart when I select the OS? I looked around but couldn't find anything about this really.
Choose Win 7 as the default OS to boot.

I have seen the same issue with Win 8.1.1 and Win 7 as you see with Win 10 and Win 7.
Having Win 7 as the default OS uses the old style boot menu, but does not require a restart when selecting any OS.
Hopefully Win 10 will work the same way.

Just tried it and it works, though the old style boot menu looks worse and has less options (AFAIK) compared to the newer one I was just using. Why does the new boot menu require a restart when you select the non default OS?

I think it's because they have started to "pre-load" the Win 10 OS to have a GUI boot menu.
If that's true, it probably needs to do a restart to boot from the older Windows partition.
    Just guessing here.

I don't look at a boot screen very much, so I don't mind the old style.
I've been using it for years, so I'm use to it.
I prefer the old style boot menu to having "a restart" to use Win 7.

Same here, but I got used to being able to use the mouse and what seems like more options, like recovery and repair options, all in the boot menu. I don't mind going back to the old boot menu, because booting either OS without restarting is much more important.

If what you said is true, then you can probably dual boot Window 8 and 10 with the new boot menu, and not have to restart when you select 8. So it's just something that can't be changed when using an older OS.

Someone dual booting with 8 and 10 would need to say how that combo works.
I'm using 10 in a VM running under 7 right now.
