So it'l be like Windows 7 then. We first tested the preview release, then a beta before final release. So I'm guessing this is what will happen this time.

No, actually, the first Consumer Preview is intended to be released in the spring. Retail release isn't expected until next fall.
    I stand corrected. Thanks.

    Just my two Euro cents:

The Windows 10 Tech Preview is a surprisingly stable and "ready to run" OS considering it's just a pre-release version. I have it as the main and only OS on three rigs, one desktop and two laptops since the October 1st, heavy daily use and not a single issue (not counting some cosmetics). I am extremely happy with it and will no longer use the "old" Windows 8.1. All three computers found and installed all drivers, I only had to install the finger print reader drivers to laptops manually.

Just a few minutes ago I replied to an XP Mode issue on Seven Forums taking screenshots from XP Mode installed on Windows 7 virtual machine running in Hyper-V on Windows 10 laptop . That's how good this works.

I've had no crashes, no BSOD, all my software has installed without issues, only one of my Windows 8.1 Modern Apps does not work (news app from a Finnish newspaper).

Yeah, I wouldn't read too much into the listed expiry date. They had to pick a date at some point. It could likely change too if you upgrade to a newer preview release. I bet they could change it with a Windows update/patch. lol, the release date for the finale version of 10 could change too, and likely will several times.

My main concern that there will be very few drivers at the moment.

My current 8.1 drivers worked fine for me. AMD CCC and NVidia video drivers for example were fine. The only issue I had was with an older VIA onboard audio on one of my desktops. I had to run the installer as admin to get it to work correctly.

If you don't have driver issues with your 8.1 setup, I don't think you'll have issues with WTP.
    Windows found all my drivers.

    I wish that were true.
My HP desktop just would not do W10 as an upgrade, never completed the install. Had to go to dual-boot with a virgin W10 and build from there.
But I think some are missing the issue with making it a daily driver and that is even if it works now as the dd, will the next build or the ones after that exhibit that same performance?
MS has been pretty careful in what they say about the TP.
But if you keep your data live backed up, then it should be doable with the caution that things could change for the worse.
