    Data & Personal Protection

According to Computer Active, a magazine I have just bought, on page 7 they state that "AVG has issued an updated privacy policy that appears to grant the company the right to harvest and sell on data collected from users of its popular 'free' av tool, including browsing and search history."

I have just posted this message to AVG via their FB page:

'According to Computer Active page 7, you can sell data. Under no circumstances will you sell any data on me to anyone, for any reason; nor will you give it away. I am expressly denying you permission to do so. I am fairly sure the UK Data Protection Act covers such an occurrence.'

Mine is not free, but still the order still stands.

That all depends on what you agreed to when you installed their software, I'd bet under their installation license terms that they are well within their rights to do it no mater how wrong you thing it is.

Hmmm...more likely you purchased a license, so you have the right to use the software. Unless the license is different from most software licenses, you do not "own" the software.

Did you read the licensing terms before installing?

Exactly. What do the terms and conditions of the license you agreed to say? I'll bet one of the first phrases in the terms and conditions establishes "This is a license to install and use our software, however the software remains the sole property of us, the company that created it."
