Hey guys I didnt want to make a new thread yet as this is almost the same issue that im having, my computer will randomly lock up and mouse will not move, no sound nothing and then sometimes it will lock up and i can move the mouse and sound is still going, I did notice it really happens when i do video recording and locks up about 5 minutes into it. It also locks up as well I have windows 10 home build 10240
is this just something i should just wait on?
Alright I found something thats working so far, I had some issues that might fix this freeze for you guys, I checked if I had any USB drivers not working and I had one for a Saitek X52pro flight stick and had one drivers over lapping them, so I removed the USB driver and did a restart, the 2nd thing I did is that I noticed that I had my background slideshow going on and I believe that this is the main problem and not really sure how but when i turned off my slideshow everything is running fine, no lock ups or freezes so far

Alright, so I went back to windows 7 and I still had the same issue, i found that my drivers for my USB ports where not working. So i checked the Motherboard website and had no updated USB drivers for windows 7 or 10. so i found the drivers on a CD and it seems to be working now with no crashes, I really hope that this helps someone
I have totaly the same annoying issue, system is freezing, stuttering for few minutes, half a minute.. i had an issue with usb stick, not properly installed, not properly removed (by my brother) and now is my system in this terrible state.. is there any solution?

So I shouldn't revert back to Windows 7 to get the key? I don't really have a desire to go back to it, I just want options if Windows 10 clean install doesn't work. And by downloading drivers, do you mean onto my portable hard drive from the respected websites? I think a driver might be a root reason for my freezes but I could be wrong.
Your windows 10 is activated and forever will be on that computer. When you reinstall windows 10, it might ask for a key, but yo don't need to provide one. You can safely skip that page (there will be a skip option) and continue installing like normal. Once you connect to the internet Windows will activate automatically.
Downloading the drivers before you reinstall is optional. Windows 10 has what it needs to connect to windows update where it can download any generic drivers it does not have already built-in.
I wouldn't rely on Windows Update for your drivers though. You should download the newest versions from the motherboard, video card, and any other hardware's support site.
You should install these drivers as the very first thing you do once Windows is installed. Prior to restoring any of your software/backups.
Well CluelessCompKid I hope you took my advise with creating a back up image of your windows 7 with Macrium Reflect free because if you didn't and have done a full clean install of windows 10 you can't go back to 7 or re install it unless you have a copy of it with keys . I did look into your system and notice Asus doesn't have any of the major drivers your laptop could use, like the Chipset, Audio, Lan and even the Graphic. So like I said Windows update generic drivers is all that is needed for now . Your Asus laptop has the Intel graphic hd 4000 and the website below is what is needed for your laptop. All you do to install the driver is load it on your laptop and after install it from there, not on your external ( portable ) drive. You can keep a copy of it on your external ( portable ) drive to use when ever you do a re installation of windows 10 ... Just make sure you download the correct graphic driver version of windows 10 32 or 64 bit, which windows 10 version do you have install 32 or 64 ? .. Any ways I hope the graphic driver helps with your freezing problems

This is more than a month later but I'm still having the freezing problems. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Maybe I should just buy a new computer but I've only had this one for 2 years. :/
I'm starting to think it's the battery. It freezes when I pick it up and hold it near the battery or when I accidentally move it slightly across a desk - then the whole thing freezes and sometimes the wifi driver is gone/not working unless I remove the battery for 30 seconds and insert it back in.
With this issue, the sound issue (that's something else but it wasn't a big deal. I'm just adding it to the list), the CD Rom acting up, I think I'm done fighting with this thing honestly lol. I would literally get up and buy another laptop if a laptop to this caliber wasn't so expensive. (It was a gift so this one was free but even the person who gave it to me as a gift is telling me to just buy another when I can)
Edit: I didn't notice the mention of the graphics driver, sn00ker.Maybe that's it since it also freezes when I play demanding 3d games for more than an hour but it wouldn't explain the freezing from being picked up.
hey I just wanted to add something, I notice that there are two audio drivers installed on my computer and im not sure if you guys are having the same thing but I notice that there is something called "AMD HD audio" driver and I have the realtek audio, i think they are conflicting and i cant seem to stop the AMD drivers from installing but when i remove the AMD audio drivers my computer seem to run better
