Question? Have you installed Win 10 and use it everyday?

Hyppsie, which keyboard do you have?

I replaced the HP keyboard with a Logitech K350 wireless on this HP 500-056. There are no lights on the keyboard, but HP has NumLock turned off on bootup and there's no way to get it to the "on" position on bootup. I've tried everything, but HP told me it can't be done because it's a security measure. Pardon me???

Also have no NumLock light, although the key still works.

On previous builds I had this issue with the Numlock not lighting and/or working. I went to the BIOS to make sure it was right and came back to the OS, didn't find out what was wrong. With 9879 it started to work, no issues and hasn't gone out yet.

I actually forgot that this was happening since 9879. Saw this post which reminded me of the problem.

I actually noticed that light not working just a minute ago before I saw this thread. I guess it's not really a big deal as long the the number keys work. :)

You could check the status of NUMLOCK with the Windows OnScreen Keyboard,

Hmm. BIOS has had NumLock configuration (Default is off > Choice to boot on) for as long as I can remember. All of a sudden it's a security measure?

I have the Acer keyboard that came with. It has Num, Caps, and Scroll lock lights.

    Edit:

Wyn, have you tried Logitech for a driver?

All, I suspect this is an OS bug that I'm sure they'll fix eventually as I'm sure you all know.

Yeah, what I asked/said! First off, it's just as easy to use the numbers on the top row, so why would using the keypad be a security measure? Secondly, all you have to do is press the NumLock key and you can use the keypad, so I'm not understanding how NumLock being on or off at Bootup could possibly be a security measure.

Yeah, Hippsie, I did. And there was no help there either.

I just drug out the HP USB keyboard that came with this "store bought" system and hooked it to my HP Series g laptop (15.6"/no keypad). You got it! When I shut down and rebooted, twice to be sure, numbers on the keypad would not work until I pressed the NumLock key!

Re: NumLock being off at Startup and other problems with same:

I started a thread around April 6, 2014 in eightforums and we kicked it around and around, but never found a solution. I've lived with NumLock not working at bootup ever since.

Here's the link to the thread:

Solved Num Lock on Startup Anomaly - Page 6

Although this is for Windows 8/8.1, it seems to be happening with Windows 10 also.
