Yeah, what I asked/said! First off, it's just as easy to use the numbers on the top row, so why would using the keypad be a security measure? Secondly, all you have to do is press the NumLock key and you can use the keypad, so I'm not understanding how NumLock being on or off at Bootup could possibly be a security measure.
I suspect they forgot to write it in the BIOS/UEFI firmware or they’re just too cheap.

Did a lot and continue to do some building contract estimate/bid work using a calculator and Excel spreadsheets. A numbers key pad is an absolute must with a calculator and Excel. I’d go nuts having to use the top row numbers. One of the drawbacks of a lot of laptops, although I’ve seen a few with them.

BTW, the Modern Store Calculator app is an absolute must to use. Try it once and I guarantee you’ll not use another. Perform multiple +, -, *, , or / without Enter (2+2+2) > It keeps track at the top. The multiple memory feature is great. It also has the Scientific and Conversion modes also.

The security measures might have something to do with keylogging issues.

Also, you can't use ALT Codes without the Numeric Keypad.

Not having the time to be a beta tester I have not been tempted to play with Windows 10.

So forgive me for I no not what I am doing!

I personally don't. It was exhausting to go from Preview to Preview build of Windows 8 as it was every six or so months; literally upheaving and doing a clean install every six months from Developer to Consumer to Release Preview and RTM trial then to final RTM. I've now ran my single install of Windows 8 for almost a year.

The way Windows 10 is going, it's too rapid pace release to be somewhat stable enough to use, the latest build is kind of hit and miss in stability. Windows 8 for me was uber stable even from DP. Windows 10 has been a bit more buggy, but that's because MAJOR new features are being built.

Yesterday I Macrium Imaged my Windows 7 partition to external, then deleted it and recovered the space into TP. I hadn't been back to Windows 7 since early October.
