    Few Windows 10 related questions

    Hello Guys,

I've just recently upgraded to Win 10 from 8.1 and I have to say I am very impressed so far.

When I purchased Windows 8 via the discount offer of Ł35 I was sent a serial number, I could read the serial number via Jelly Bean Keyfinder, when I installed Window Media Centre the Serial number changed to a different number. Now I have upgraded to Win 10 the serial number has changed yet again, if I was to format/reinstall my computer which serial number would I enter when installing if I A) reinstalled on this current machine or B) full format/install on a new build machine?

Can automatic windows updates be turned off, I like to read about the updates and leave it a few days before doing do

The weather app live tile has stopped working, reading about it it seems it's a common problem, anyone found a fix yet?

Is it possible when importing pictures from a camera/phone to put the file name in the imported pictures file name like you used to be able to do so in the Photo Import Wizard from older versions of windows

Any way to keep favourites synced between IE and Edge browsers

Lastly I'm still confused about if Windows 10 backs up settings to the OneDrive vault, there used to be a device backup listed on the OneDrive/Settings menu webpage with Windows 8, this has now gone and I posted the question on here and some people say the settings are backed up without showing this in the OneDrive webpage and others are saying there is no settings backup which I find a little hard to believe.

    Thanks for your help

    Tony

You would rebuild with the original 8.1 product key. Then download the media center and use the Windows 8 media center key. The product key you see in Keyfinder in Windows 10 is a dummy key and like OEM product keys cannot be used to install and activate Windows. Transfer to a new computer will require installation of Windows 8 and phone activation, follwed by the upgrade to Windows 10. Both the Windows 8 and 10 licenses must be transferred together. The Windows 10 license is an upgrade license and relies on a qualifying and activated base license. It is not a stand-alone license. you should get the Microsoft DVD player from the store. You upgraded from Windows 8 with Media Center and are entitled to the player for free.

MS's policy on Windows updates has changed significantly.
You Won’t Be Able to Disable (or Delay) Windows Updates on Windows 10 Home

But this is complicated by a possible change in delivery options to come:
ActiveWin.com - The Most Activated Windows Resource
(click on the headline for the original article)

As for reading about them.. well, there's another big change:
Windows 10 users beg Microsoft for more info on updates | Computerworld

MS says no, basically. Minimal info.

    License issues:
Windows 10: Will you lose your free upgrade if you reinstall? - TechRepublic

You can clean install Win 10 (and of course do an in place repair install) on the same hardware.

"However, people running an upgraded version of Windows 10 may need to buy a new copy of Windows 10 if they switch to a new machine or "significantly upgrade the device" - which Microsoft counts as replacing the motherboard."

"Ian Moulster, Windows product manager, said: "My understanding is it's licensed to the device and not to you, so it's specific to the device and you wouldn't be able to use it elsewhere.""

When I import photo from my camera via card it puts them into camera download in pictures all I do is make another folder and right click them press rename then save them to the folder I have created like for example (user.phg then user1.phg)
Hope that helps and I use windows photo viewer to look at them or photo which you can use to resize or edit your photo

    Weather app:
    - you can try uninstalling it, resinstalling
Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Also check 'location' is on and functional - Settings and /or Notification/action centre should show a green tile at the bottom that is not shaded/greyed out.
