This is definitely happening from hibernate, and it is fully in hibernate, not some silly sleep mode (fan, battery, everything goes off, zero power consumption). I need to leave it a few more nights to see if its resolved. Its also almost certainly something to do with the Win 10 update, was never a problem on win 7.
I had the same issue with a Windows 7 machine, there was something scheduled and it would keep waking the machine to do it. So it has to be something to do with Updates. Check the tutorials on how to set WU to "Notify Only"

@DavidE: It hasnt happened for a week so i presume so (thread marked as solved to reflect).

@XweAponX: WU in win10 cannot be set to notify only. Its settings range from "downright stupid" to "you don't actually own this PC any more".

Well you can't set it from within settings, you have to use Group Policy Editor. But you can only use that in Pro Systems. (Edit) but I feel your frustration.

Well, you could 'trick' Windows Home by telling it you had a metered connection (which would more-or-less disable update). Or tell it not to install drivers. Or prevent it from installing certain updates by hiding them using the MS Show & Hide utility

I know this old but I just had to fix this issue myself. Just in case this happens to anyone else....my machine was upgraded from Win7 to Win10. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Someone suggested running powercfg /lastwake. Well, that was useless information. Then I checked out all switches for powercfg and immediately nailed what was doing it:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg /waketimers
Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (SystemEventsBroker) expires at 10:18:36 AM on 5/18/2016.
Reason: Windows will execute 'NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\mcupdate_scheduled' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.

Deleted that ******* and now all is well! It was a useless task anyway. It would wake the machine then failed to run because it couldn't find xxxxx file.

    1 possible solution

I know this is really old, but I wanted to give a solution to anyone still struggling with this problem. Here's the one that worked for me. I found it from a Microsoft forum:

"If there are no tasks running that makes the computer resume from Sleep mode, it is possible that the computer is switched ON due to the network connection. There is an option which if selected, allows the Network adapter to wake your computer if it receives any new communications. So, if this option is selected, your PC might resume from sleep mode every time it receives a new update for any apps or any other application connected to Internet.

You can refer these steps to check and disable if this option is selected:

    a) Press Windows key + X, select Device manager

    b) Locate Network adapter and expand it to find the Network adapter installed in your PC

    c) Right click the Network adapter and select properties

    d) In the power management tab, uncheck the box against “Allow this device to Wake the computer”.

    e) Click OK to save changes."

    Source: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...llReplies#tabs

Afterwards, I let the PC enter hibernate mode without moving mouse or keyboard, waited for 5 - 15 minutes, noticed that it is still in hibernate and hasn't woken up on its own.

Saving energy can be addictive and this hibernation problem kept nagging me over real work, lol. Hope that helps one of you!
