Did you search for the terms password, or sign-in? It might take you to the location... Win 10 is a little different than 8.

Other option is to change the display time to match the lock time.

This, that's probably the easiest method. Did you do a fresh/clean install of W10, and not an upgrade? Maybe a bug or something affecting the settings.

My laptop when the screen goes dim 2,5,10 minutes (doesn't matter) it locks automatically. When I shake or click the mouse I see the lock and am prompted to enter the P/W to return ......

Yeah. I clean installed Windows 10 two times yesterday, because of some stupid software from lenovo that I can't uninstall (and guess what, Windows 10 installs it automatically). And I didn't find settings for that. For me it behaves the way I described.

You can turn off device driver installation settings: Device Driver Automatic Installation - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

You can change Windows update to notify instead of automatically updating (not recommended): Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I did just that. The problem was that once that is installed, there is no way to get rid of it, so I need to get rid of it before it gets installed. Installed windows several more times and got it right just about 5 minutes ago. Solution was this:
Windows Updates - Hide or Show in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

But I wonder how you find those links, 'cause I just don't seem to be able to, when I need them.

I go to the tutorial section (because it will take time for search engines to display these newer searches high on their list): Windows 10 Tutorials

    then I search specific terms:

Just thought I would post a picture. This is the best way!

Now I started using a laptop, and it has different 'display off' times for 'when plugged' and 'when unplugged', and different display off times for different 'power plans', so I can't use that trick any more.

How can I do 'lock computer when display off' ?

    Windows 10 (64bit)

    i think this will work...
right click the task bar 'battery' icon on the right-hand side. choose 'power options'. Or just go into Control Panel and type: Power Options. Go to 'require a password on wakeup' on the left side of control panel. Choose 'change settings that are unavailable'. Then choose the option to require password on wakeup (recommended).
This is the way that gets most people as the setting is greyed out until u click a few lines that don't stand out to be clicked right away.
If u want to change it to not require any sign-in during reboots/restarts and no locksreen, go to 'RUN' and type: netplwiz. Uncheck 'Users must enter a password to use this computer'. Then enter ur password twice to confirm.

    Hope this helps... Jim
