Windows explorer and other weird problems.

So within that past day I have been having strange issues.
    1. Each time I open a new windows explorer window it starts searching with the green bar loading all the way up to the right side and most of the time not finishing but sometimes it does I think? I disabled the windows search service to see if that would help but it didn't seem to do anything
    2. Thumbnails are disappearing from pictures and video files and becoming white rectangle/paper icons. The videos can still be played. ( I optimized the drives for documents for now to not load thumbnails.)
    3. When I right click on a video file and mouse over the "Open with.." selection it freezes up that windows and resets explorer if I close it.
    4. The recycling bin icon disappears after emptying it, but I can still see that name and click on it. Sometimes it comes back after a bit?

Anyways, I was just wondering if there is something that would be causing all of this. Or maybe a windows update is doing something weird. Thanks in advance!

Hi, just wondering- what came before the 'so'? In other words, xyz happened so my computer doesn't work now.
    Any ideas about the history?
Was there an update? (See your Update History- check the dates - including drivers at the bottom).
Did you install or uninstall anything?
Did your cat walk over the keyboard?
    Power outage...

    Do you have either
    - a system restore point you could use?
    or
    - a disk image you could restore? (Members tirelessly recommend the routine use of disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free-paid), image files to large enough external storage so you can rescue your PC from many problems from being unbootable to ransomware, being stolen (new PC) to a failed disk yourself quite quickly.

    It's a desktop.
Model? Age? Disk(s)? Click 'My computers' under my post for a comparison. See:
    Collecting System Specifications in Windows
System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums

The forum prompted you when you wrote your post to specify your build number. It gets so boring having to keep asking...!
    Thanks.

    Please perform these basic checks:
    a. Check your disk
HD Tune v2.55 free Health and Error Scan tabs

    b. From an admin command or Powershell prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
and post the short summary result.
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW

If ok, create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user: do you see the same problems?
Do you have the same problems if you perform a clean boot? (Google or see tutorial if unsure how).

The last windows update I did was on the 17th for, 2020-KB4552931 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1903, and 2020—KB4556799 update. I have not seen any of this stuff happening since yesterday. The last driver update was 4/10/20 for Xbox - Net???
Otherwise the PC is around 4ish years old. I installed Windows 10 earlier this year. I have 5 different drives. 2 ssd's and 3 HDD's. I know 2 of the HDDs I got for christmas Robot Check and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H28SY38/ I know that my OS is on a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO, The other SSD is a Mushkin Enhanced MFG a Division of ACIGP - Chronos 240GB I don't know the third HDD since my brother gave it to me a while back.

I do have a windows restore point for the Windows updates on the 17th and one for a Windows Modules Installer??? on the 10th.

I don't know if this info will help you in some other way, but ill try out the other stuff you suggested.

Thanks, if the disk, file system and system files checks pass, the easiest and quickest option would be to try using the restore point.

It's worth doing disk checks on all your disks while you're thinking about it.

Would you be able to go into more detail on how to do the, chkdsk and SCF SCANNOW for multiple drives? Or If there is a web link with more explanation. The HDD's are quite big so I don't know how long it will take to do the scans.

    b. From an admin command or Powershell prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
and post the short summary result.
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW

    SFC /SCANNOW
    - only applies to Windows system files.

Let's say you have drive or partition D: so it's
From an admin command or Powershell prompt run
    chkdsk D: /scan

    then
    chkdsk E: /scan

    etc

HD Tune: view the Health tab for each drive.

What are you referring to with the Disk, File system and system files checks?

This is really really absolutely basic.

Your disk is the physical disk you can hold.

Your file system is the way in which files are held on the disk.

Your system files are the files comprising Windows, stored on the physical disk in accordance with the file system structure.

    Let's make this simple.

First, download, install and run HD Tune and view the Health tab for each drive letter. Post the result - not a long text report.

I mean what tests are the Disk, File system and system files checks referring to. What test am I doing to test the file system and System file checks? I'm not sure what tests you want me to do in reference to those 3 things.
Also, how long will the SFC SCANNOW take (since I'm assuming that I need to do it once for the single OS), and how long will the chkdsk's take? My drives are 2 of 250GB SSD's, a 2GB HDD, a 4 GB HDD, and a 6GB HDD.

Do I need to do the Error scarn on HD Tune Pro for all of my drives? It will take a very long time if I do.
